Electronic Arts

Vancouver, BC, or Montreal, QC

The Studio

EA Create is a collective of content production teams partnering with EA Studios game teams to provide outstanding visuals, audio and technology. Our teams consist of artists, engineers, technicians, designers and development directors. Worldwide, we combine our teams to form a global group of extraordinary individuals fueled by imagination, creating amazing visuals, sound and experiences. We are a diverse team, unified through collaboration, culture and craft.

The Game

As a Sound Designer with a strong music background you will work on the next evolution of the Skate™ franchise as part of the Create Audio team. We are set to deliver a rich, vibrant, and fun sonic experience that embraces and builds upon everything that makes this franchise so special. We believe in creating an inclusive world inside and outside of our games for our players and our team.

The Role

You will assist our Music Director in crafting an engaging and immersive music experience - from editing and mastering tracks, to in-game visual scripting of interactive music logic, and working with our game team partners on determining requirements.

Music plays a critical role in Skate and skateboarding-culture, and you will help achieve our ambitious plans in this area. You will also contribute to Create Audio and EA’s vibrant audio community, sharing your work with others.

What We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate will have a passion for video games, a drive to create world-class audio and an ability to bring the best out of their team members and peers.

  • Work with our Music Director on a range of music tasks to ensure music fits the established audio direction, is delivered on time and meets established technical requirements for interactivity
  • Edit and master music tracks
  • Implement and troubleshoot in-game interactive music logic, using visual scripting
  • Support areas outside of music, such as sound design, when required
  • Collaborate with game team to establish overall design and implement specific features
  • Participate in scope assessment, priorities and planning
  • Participate in building a stronger audio community across multiple studios within EA

What You Bring

  • You have experience in all phases of music design and production, with proficiency in every step of the pipeline; from precision editing and design to technical implementation
  • Minimum of three years game audio and/or post-production experience
  • Solid understanding of music theory and experience working with modern popular genres of music, however this is not a composer role
  • Proficient in using game development tools, technology and pipelines (eg Wwise, Unreal)
  • Proficiency in at least one DAW (Reaper preferred)
  • Strong sound design and listening skills
  • Exceptional communication and problem-solving skills
  • A balance of both creative and technical thinking
  • Strong collaborator with a desire to share knowledge within the team and larger EA audio community
  • Ability to own a project feature, and drive innovation and flag risks, within agreed boundaries
