Technical Artist - User Interface

Frostbite is EA's state-of-the-art game engine that powers games such as Madden NFL, EA SPORTS™ FIFA, Battlefield™, Need for Speed™, Dragon Age™ and Plants vs. Zombies™. What does a Technical Artist do?

As a Technical Artist, you will report to Frostbite's Technical Art Development Director as a part of the Frostbite Technical Art team. As a member of this team, you'll help make our development process more creator-centric by serving as a link between engineers and game creators. Your passion and expertise with the technical challenges of Game UI tools will directly contribute to and push the boundaries of the newest tools and workflows that Frostbite releases to game teams.

You Will

  • Use your technical and artistic expertise to guide the development of Frostbite's UI toolset for creating menu systems and user interfaces.

  • Collaborate directly with engineers to improve the usability of Frostbite's UI creation tool and help steer the design of new features.

  • Work with a team of technical artists to create tech examples, demos, documentation, and training materials to help educate the Frostbite community.

  • Collaborate and advise on tools, workflows and best practices with Technical Artists and Designers across all of EA studios using Frostbite.

Requirements

  • Experience developing UI features from concept to live services

  • Experience in node-based visual programming

  • Experience with UX systems and methodologies

  • Experience in game engines and their related user interface systems

  • Understanding of gaming platforms, their limitations, and requirements for UI solutions

  • 2+ years of experience with AAA or mobile game development or Mobile App Development

Bonus Points For

  • Background in graphic design or illustration

  • Experience with After Effects

  • Experience with 3D DCC tools and game engines

  • Experience with shader graph systems

  • Experience teaching or training others in the skills of user interface design

  • Love of learning, experimenting with new ideas, and discovering ways to improve production workflows

  • You love a challenge and aren't afraid to address technical issues you don't know how to solve

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS The ranges listed below are what EA in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in these locations at the time of this posting. If you reside in a different location, a recruiter will advise on the applicable range and benefits. Pay offered will be determined based on a number of relevant business and candidate factors (e.g. education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, or business needs). BASE SALARY RANGES

  • British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria)
    • $73,200 - $101,700 CAD

In British Columbia, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top-up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
