Senior Software Engineer II – Gameplay / Systems

  • Design, develop, and own complex gameplay and systems-level features from concept to shipping and live support.
  • Act as a technical leader across multiple teams, driving alignment on architecture, patterns, and best practices.
  • Maintain, refactor, and evolve large-scale systems to improve stability, performance, and long-term maintainability.
  • Provide technical direction and mentorship to engineers at multiple experience levels through design reviews, code reviews, and informal coaching.
  • Partner closely with Design, Production, and other disciplines to translate high-level goals into robust technical solutions.
  • Identify systemic risks and technical debt, proactively proposing and leading solutions that benefit multiple teams or projects.
  • Contribute to and uphold engineering standards, tooling, and workflows at a studio-wide level.
  • Collaborate with Production on planning, scoping, and execution of sprint and milestone goals.
  • Author and review technical design documents that influence cross-team systems and long-term strategy.
Your Qualifications
  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant experience on gameplay or real-time systems.
  • Proven experience shipping multiple multiplayer and/or live-service video game titles.
  • Deep experience working in large, shared codebases, including ownership of complex systems and performance-critical code.
  • Strong understanding of system architecture, data-oriented design, and performance budgeting in real-time environments.
  • Expert-level C++ skills and strong debugging, profiling, and optimization abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technically without direct management responsibility.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence decisions across teams and disciplines.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent training and professional experience.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS 

The ranges listed below are what EA in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in these locations at the time of this posting. If you reside in a different location, a recruiter will advise on the applicable range and benefits. Pay offered will be determined based on a number of relevant business and candidate factors (e.g. education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, or business needs). 

PAY RANGES
* British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria) *$165,900 - $238,100 CAD
* California (depending on location e.g. Los Angeles vs. San Francisco) *$186,900 - $289,700 USD

In the US, we offer a package of benefits including paid time off (3 weeks per year to start), 80 hours per year of sick time, 16 paid company holidays per year, 10 weeks paid time off to bond with baby, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.

For British Columbia, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top-up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
