As an Outsourcing Prop Artist, you are responsible for the large volume of environmental and interactive objects that populate EA’s worlds. You act as the primary point of contact for external partners, guiding asset creation from briefing through final delivery. You ensure props use efficient topology, meet performance targets, and apply PBR textures that respond accurately to in-game lighting. Your work ensures externally developed assets are indistinguishable from those created by internal teams.

Responsibilities

  • Create asset briefs with references, blockouts, and UV requirements
  • Review external assets for topology, baking quality, and mechanical logic
  • Evaluate PBR textures for consistency across materials and lighting
  • Apply final polish including LODs, collision, and engine integration
  • Guide vendors on modular asset creation aligned to level design grids
  • Provide paint-over feedback to improve geometry, UVs, and materials
  • Track asset quality and improve first-pass approval rates

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in environment or prop art for shipped games
  • Experience working with external vendors or outsourcing pipelines
  • Experience creating hard-surface assets using Maya or 3ds Max
  • Experience texturing using Substance Painter and Designer
  • Experience reviewing assets in real-time engines

Core Skills and Experience

  • Build clean geometry using sub-d and Boolean workflows
  • Evaluate high-to-low poly bakes and resolve artifacts
  • Apply PBR workflows across albedo, roughness, and metallic maps
  • Balance asset quality with performance budgets (LOD, memory, draw calls)
  • Understand scale, composition, and in-game environmental context
  • Use tools such as [engine], Marmoset Toolbag, and [asset tracking tools]
