Data Engineer III - EADP Gameplay Services

We Are EA

We’re EA—the world’s largest video game publisher. You’re probably familiar with many of our titles—Madden, EA Sports FC, The Sims, Need for Speed, Dead Space, Battlefield and Star Wars, to name a few. But maybe you don’t know how we’re committed to creating games for every platform—from social to mobile to console —to give our players that anytime, anywhere access they demand. What does that mean for you? It means more opportunities to unleash your computing genius.

Opportunity Ahead

Our platform powers online features for EA’s games, serving millions of users each day. We live, breathe, and dream about how we can make every player’s multiplayer experience memorable. We develop services and SDKs in collaboration with EA’s game studios for matchmaking, stats and leaderboards, achievements, game replays, VOIP, and game networking.

Our primary mission is to enrich the player’s gaming experience by meticulously optimizing the matchmaking process. We believe that effective matchmaking is the cornerstone of any successful multiplayer gaming experience, and we are committed to perfecting this aspect of our service. We continuously reflect and probe various elements to ensure the player’s gaming encounters are both fun and challenging

As a Data Engineer III at EADP Gameplay Services, you will plan, build, and deploy enterprise integration and business intelligence solutions to support and enhance matchmaking services. You will serve as a subject matter expert in developing data integration solutions with modern ETL technologies, leveraging advanced tools to store and analyse large-scale data and address complex business challenges. Collaboration with product, business, and engineering teams will be key to delivering optimal matchmaking solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse and organise raw matchmaking data; model datasets (3NF, dimensional) for analytics and products.
  • Build and operate reliable data pipelines (batch and streaming) across multiple sources at petabyte scale.
  • Diagnose data issues; implement data quality checks, contracts, and alerting to improve reliability.
  • Partner with product, business, and engineering to identify new data acquisition opportunities.
  • Create reusable analytical tools, libraries, and metrics that enable data-driven decisions.
  • Collaborate with data scientists and engineers across teams to serve their data needs.
  • Evangelise data as a first-class citizen through documentation, standards, and reviews.

Must Have Skills

  • 6-8 years designing, developing, and managing data systems (warehouses, lakes, and distributed stores) at multi-PB scale.
  • Expert querying and performance tuning in SQL/HiveQL; working knowledge of CQL and MongoDB Query Language.
  • Strong data modelling (3NF, star/snowflake); proven optimisation of queries, file formats, and partitioning.
  • Proficiency in Python or Java for data engineering.
  • Ingestion from JSON/XML/CSV and CDC/streaming sources; schema evolution and backfills.
  • Orchestration with Airflow or equivalent; distributed processing with Apache Spark.
  • Cloud data platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP). Example AWS stack: S3, Glue/EMR, Lambda/Step Functions; Redshift or Snowflake; Trino/Presto; Iceberg/Delta/Hudi.
  • Visualisation exposure (Tableau/Power BI) and stakeholder communication.
  • Experience in fast-paced agile teams using GitLab, Jira, and Confluence.
  • Excellent troubleshooting in distributed environments; clear written and verbal communication.

Desirable Skills

  • Real-time pipelines with Kafka/MSK or Kinesis; Flink or Spark Structured Streaming.
  • Data quality frameworks (Great Expectations/Deequ) and lineage/catalogue (DataHub/Amundsen).
  • Basic statistical modelling or ML feature engineering in production.

What’s in it for you? Glad you asked!

We love to brag about our great perks like Global fitness program, Sodexo (Food Coupons), Parental Insurance & Medical, Accident & life insurance and since we realise it takes world-class people to make world-class games, we offer competitive compensation packages and a culture that thrives off creativity and individuality. At EA, we live the “work hard/play hard” credo every day.
