External Development VFX Artist

We’re looking for an External Development VFX Artist with a passion for Battlefield-style effects to guide our partner teams in building VFX for the next Battlefield.

As an External Development VFX Artist on our Co-development Map Team, you will play an important role in shaping the visual impact and quality of Battlefield’s environments, working closely with both internal and external partners. 
 
As priorities shift, you’ll also support Core Combat VFX across external development, covering weapons, vehicles, soldiers, and gadgets.

You’ll help establish shared visual goals, maintain a consistent visual language and quality across the field, focusing on detail, believability, and emotional impact, and ensure our VFX delivers stunning, immersive experiences for our players.

 

What You'll Do

  • Help drive the direction and implementation of high-quality Visual Effects for diverse environments and game play, optimized for multiplayer and single-player experiences.
  • Collaborate with global co-development teams, providing clear visual briefs, feedback, and support to align visual direction across teams.
  • Run art reviews and quality gates with external teams to maintain consistent quality and shared visual standards.
  • Work closely with the internal VFX team and Art Direction to ensure VFX support art targets, game-play, and performance needs.
  • Review maps and identify areas requiring focused VFX effort and collaboration with external teams.
  • Learn to master the Frostbite Engine and the Battlefield VFX pipeline to ensure effects meet both visual and technical targets.
  • Help develop future tools, smarter workflows and collaborate with the VFX team internally, at Frostbite and other EA studios.
  • Support a smooth on-boarding process for external teams by ensuring that documentation for workflows, pipeline, and features is up to date.
  • Share knowledge generously, contribute to a positive, inclusive, and feedback-driven culture, and help elevate the work of those around you.
     
     

Who You Are/Have

  • A clear, proactive communicator who enjoys collaborating with co-dev/external teams and understands the value of shared success
  • Passionate about teamwork, continuous learning, and elevating the work of those around you
  • 5+ years of experience as a VFX Artist in the video games or film industry, ideally with AAA Shooter titles.
  • Experience with game engines and real-time effects. Using particle systems, shaders, visual scripting.
  • Proficient in current-generation industry-standard tools and workflows, such as Maya, Photoshop, and Houdini.
  • Strong artistic eye and ability to interpret reference and concept art, with a deep understanding of realistic appearance and believable motion.
  • Solid understanding of the technical aspects of real-time rendering engines and experience working within performance constraints and the technical considerations of multiplayer games.
  • Bonus: Experience with the Battlefield’s franchise and visual identity.
