Senior Technical Artist 1 

Fusion is one of several organizations within EA Studios that provides solutions to deliver games to millions of players around the world. With touchpoints across all titles and platforms, we work collaboratively to provide direct impact to our players worldwide. 

The Tools and Technology Team within Fusion is looking for accomplished people to help us fulfill our mission of providing creative tools and workflows that allow EA to lead the industry in content quality. Our group strives to build an ecosystem of modular components that are efficient, adjustable to trends, and allow for quick iteration of any artistic idea into reality. We partner with a global group of extraordinary creatives fueled by imagination and a unified passion for creating amazing content and experiences.

 

The Challenge Ahead: 

As a Senior Technical Artist, you will work in a growing team building the latest technology for our Character Creation pipeline. Dedicated to developing our new speech-to-animation tool, you and the team will be supported by our Product Owner and Technical Director. You will be working on the technical design and development of this custom tool to improve our users' character creation workflow. With this new tool, we are aiming to reshape the possibilities of character creation for our game teams, allowing faster and more dynamic character creation. You may also support a variety of EA’s crucial content tools alongside other teams within the Tools & Technology group. 

You will report to a Development Director.

 

Day to day, you will…

  • Research and integrate new technologies and systems to enhance the quality and efficiency of the character production pipeline.
  • Design, implement, and debug tools for character creation workflows at EA.
  • Identify complex, systematic problems in the domain of tools, pipelines, and workflow development.
  • Analyze problem spaces, risks, and dependencies across multiple domains and toolsets.
  • Partner with end-users (both game teams and character artists), local and remote, to understand their workflows and toolset needs.
  • Work both independently and in collaboration with fellow technical artists, UX designers, product managers, and software engineers located across different regions worldwide.
  • Use creative and pioneering work to grow EA's in-house technologies.
  • Established coding best practices and standards across the team and projects 
  • Mentor junior team members 

 

  

You are/you have…

  • Relevant Bachelor's degree OR equivalent training and professional experience (6+ years)  
  • Production experience with DCC applications such as Maya, Houdini, ZBrush and /or Blender 
  • Production experience with programming/scripting languages. 
  • Intermediate to expert Python experience level. 
  • Managed containerized applications (such as Docker environments) for development and production.
  • Production experience with content creation or pipeline management for game production.
  • Previous experience in tool development that may include procedural content creation, character editing tools, 2D and 3D art content pipelines, art importers/exporters, and GUI development.
  • Passionate about working with both artists and engineers, understanding the gap between both disciplines. 

Bonus if you have…

  • Experience working with Python development frameworks (such as Flask)
  • Experience with 3D Animation, Rigging or VFX
  • Experience with photogrammetry 
  • Production experience with a game engines
  • Experience using USD based workflows
  • Exposure to production render farm management (such as AWS Deadline Cloud)
  • Experience working with Source Code Control Systems such as .git
  • Knowledge of different types of testing (integration/regression) 
  • Experience with common testing frameworks (selenium, JUnit, playwright) 
  • Experience with Agile (Scrum) development methodologies 
  • Experience in UI development 
  • Experience with C#

If you reside in a different location, a recruiter will advise on the applicable range and benefits. Pay offered will be determined based on a number of relevant business and candidate factors (e.g. education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, or business needs). BASE SALARY RANGES

  • British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria)
    • $107,600 - $147,100 CAD

Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at EA. We also offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top-up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
