The Online Software Engineer will help build networked gameplay experiences for our EA SPORTS FC franchise. We are looking for engineers who enjoy prototyping and planning, adding amazing new features to an existing and beloved game, and improving existing code. You will report to the Development Director and work with your Technical Lead to estimate, build and improve projects. You will be focused on delivering excellent game experiences through efficient and effective code.

Your Responsibilities

 

  • Leverage EA's Digital Platform technologies to implement server features, components, and services.
  • Create and maintain client code to support features and improve multiplayer experiences.
  • Optimize client and server online systems to improve latency, reliability, scalability, performance, and memory.
  • Design and iterate on solution architecture for live systems and workflows.
  • Work with designers and producers to translate creative concepts into reliable software solutions.
  • Be responsible for your own work, collaborating in code reviews and contributing to the quality of the code base.
  • Share progress with your team, reporting to technical leadership and production, collaborating with the wider team.

 

Your Qualifications

 

  • 4+ years of experience in software development (using Visual Studio) with a strong C++ focus.
  • Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming and OO design principles.
  • Solid foundation in algorithms and data structures.
  • Ability to quickly understand and debug existing and unfamiliar code and modify it.
  • Experience communicating and collaborating with multiple disciplines (various areas of a project, other teams).
  • Ability to cover a feature end to end (define technical solution, work with partners to refine it, implement within project deadlines, address bugs in a timely manner).
  • Experience with networked applications or features (client/server and/or peer-to-peer).
  • Experience developing in and debugging multi-threaded/concurrent architectures.
  • Experience with relational databases such as MySQL.
  • Familiarity with non-relational/NoSQL databases such as Redis, MongoDB.
  • Knowledge of RPC and REST-based APIs.
  • Knowledge of networking protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, UDP).
