We're looking for a software engineer to work on cloud web services to help us bring exciting new features to life. In this role, you will be part of a small team responsible for supporting legacy Maxis titles. You will work with an experienced team that has collectively built Maxis games for more than two decades.

You will report to a Development Director for the backend services team and your work will be in Java, Spring, Linux/Bash, and deployed to cloud platforms.

As a Backend Software Engineer at Maxis, you will

  • Work with designers, client engineering, and production teams to achieve gameplay goals that are supported by the service

  • Demonstrate excellent technical problem-solving skills under iteratively changing requirements during game development

  • Improve server online systems to improve latency, reliability, scalability, performance, and memory.

  • Work with partner teams to stand up and maintain backend infrastructure and services for the title.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent training and professional experience

  • 1+ years of Software Engineer Experience or Internship experience

  • Understanding of Java Server Environment and familiarity with frameworks 

  • Experience in Cloud services like Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud. 

  • Experience developing and debugging multi-threaded/concurrent architectures.

  • Experience with load testing, troubleshooting, and optimizing the performance of web services

  • Willingness to be part of a live team, with rapid responses to emerging issues

Pluses

  • You've built software with Java or Kotlin

  • You have experience with CI/CD pipelines and terraform

  • You have experience with GCP or AWS services like EC2, RDS, Lambda, S3, or Route53

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS The ranges listed below are what EA in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in these locations at the time of this posting. If you reside in a different location, a recruiter will advise on the applicable range and benefits. Pay offered will be determined based on a number of relevant business and candidate factors (e.g. education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, or business needs). PAY RANGES

  • British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria)
    • $79,900 - $111,900 CAD

In British Columbia, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, and after 3 months of service - extended health/dental/vision coverage and basic life insurance.
