Summary

The Technical Artist - Character reports to the Art Director and partners with Production and Engineering teams to deliver high-quality player and character visuals. This role focuses on character rendering, shaders, character scanning workflows, and animation integration to support realistic and performant character experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Character Artists, Animators, and Engineers to deliver high-quality player and character content.
  • Develop and optimize character shaders, materials, skin rendering, hair rendering, and visual effects within the game engine.
  • Support character scanning workflows, including scan processing, asset integration, and visual quality validation.
  • Collaborate with Animation teams on character setup, deformation quality, motion capture integration, and runtime implementation.
  • Improve character production pipelines, tools, and workflows to increase efficiency and content quality.
  • Troubleshoot character rendering, animation, and asset integration issues throughout development.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, including AI-assisted workflows, to improve character creation and production efficiency.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of Technical Artist experience in game development.
  • Strong understanding of character art production pipelines and real-time character rendering.
  • Experience creating and optimizing character shaders, materials, and rendering workflows.
  • Experience working with game engines such as Unreal Engine or Unity.
  • Proficiency in Python, Lua, or similar scripting languages.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills across Art and Engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience shipping AAA, mobile, or live service games.
  • Experience supporting facial scanning, photogrammetry, or digital human workflows.
  • Experience working with facial rigs, character rigging, skinning, or deformation systems.
  • Experience integrating motion capture data and animation systems into production pipelines.
  • Knowledge of player likeness creation and character authenticity workflows.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted content creation, automation, or production workflows.
  • Passion for football games and player presentation.
