The Data & Insights (D&I) Data Group develops a unified Big Data pipeline across all franchises at Electronic Arts. Our live service platform incorporates data collection, ingestion, processing, real-time streaming analytics, access, and visualisation - all built on a modern, cloud-based tech stack with modern tools. The Data Group provides the tools and platform that power the future of game development, marketing, sales, accounting, and customer experience.

As a Technical Director I, you will define and drive technical strategy across multiple teams or domains. You will operate at an organizational level, shaping architecture, aligning stakeholders, and ensuring that systems are scalable, reliable, and aligned with long-term business goals. You will also mentor senior engineers and leaders while elevating engineering excellence across the organization.

The Technical Director I will report to the Senior Manager, Engineering.

Responsibilities:

  • You will define and drive the technical vision, architecture, and long-term strategy for large, complex domains spanning multiple teams or systems.
  • You will lead the design of highly scalable, distributed systems that support critical business and player-facing capabilities.
  • You will partner with engineering, product, and business leaders to align technical strategy with organizational goals and priorities.
  • You will Provide technical leadership across teams, ensuring consistency in architecture, standards, and best practices.
  • You will Influence and guide major architectural decisions, including build vs. buy, platform strategy, and technology selection.
  • You will oversee the health, scalability, and reliability of systems at an organizational level, ensuring operational excellence.
  • You will drive cross-team initiatives to improve performance, cost efficiency, developer productivity, and system maintainability.
  • You will anticipate future technical challenges and proactively design solutions that scale with business growth.
  • You will establish and promote engineering standards, governance models, and development best practices across the organization.
  • You will mentor senior engineers and technical leaders, fostering growth and building technical leadership capability.
  • You will act as a key technical advisor to leadership, contributing to strategic planning and investment decisions.
  • You will facilitate collaboration across distributed teams, resolving complex dependencies and aligning on shared solutions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, with significant experience in system architecture and technical leadership roles.
  • Deep expertise in designing and operating large-scale, distributed systems and platforms.
  • Strong background in software architecture, system design, and engineering best practices.
  • Experience leading technical strategy across multiple teams or complex domains.
  • Proven ability to influence and align senior stakeholders across engineering, product, and business functions.
  • Extensive experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS) and modern distributed architectures.
  • Strong understanding of data platforms, real-time streaming systems, or large-scale data processing ecosystems.
  • Expertise in system reliability, scalability, performance optimization, and cost management.
  • Experience establishing engineering standards, governance, and development processes at scale.
