We are seeking a seasoned and strategic Technical Director of Internal Developer Experience to lead the development operations infrastructure supporting multiple game development teams. This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for maintaining and evolving the critical systems, tools, and services that underpin our daily development workflows.
The successful candidate will operate within an existing, in-service legacy infrastructure, ensuring its continued reliability and performance. In parallel, they will assess long-term needs and, if appropriate, lead a phased migration to a modernized infrastructure, minimizing disruption and supporting development continuity. Ensuring the robustness, scalability, and reliability of infrastructure is central to supporting our business and production goals.
Responsibilities
Lead Internal Developer Experience strategy and execution across multiple distinct development teams, providing tailored support while managing shared infrastructure.
Lead a high-performing Developer Experience engineering team with a culture of operational excellence, ownership, and proactive support.
Operate and optimize an already-in-service legacy development environment, ensuring minimal downtime and long-term scalability.
Partner with a build automation team to scale and upgrade build farm capacity and architecture, matching development and production demands.
Ensure all infrastructure meets internal security and compliance standards, including secure access controls and audit trails.
Support onboarding and secure workflows for external developers and partners, maintaining workflow compatibility and data integrity.
Qualifications:
8+ years in DevOps, infrastructure, or build engineering roles, including 3+ years in a senior or director-level leadership role.
Demonstrated success managing, operating, and evolving legacy infrastructure, including phased migration strategies.
Deep expertise in source control (Perforce, Git), CI/CD, and scalable build systems.
Scripting proficiency in Python, C#, C++, or equivalent.
Strong understanding of infrastructure security, compliance, monitoring, and cost control.
Experience leading infrastructure support across multiple product teams or projects.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in AAA game development or large-scale interactive entertainment projects.
Familiarity with DRE (Distributed Runtime Environment) or comparable automated build ecosystems.
Background in supporting external/remote developers and distributed pipelines.
Understanding of asset-heavy workflows, binary versioning, and multi-platform release pipelines.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The ranges listed below are what EA in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in these locations at the time of this posting. If you reside in a different location, a recruiter will advise on the applicable range and benefits. Pay offered will be determined based on a number of relevant business and candidate factors (e.g. education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, or business needs).
PAY RANGES
In British Columbia, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top-up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
