Join a versatile team driving innovation in Animation and Cinematics technologies within Frostbite. Reporting to the Manager of Engine Development, you will work with domain experts who are passionate about developing the very best tools and runtime technologies within the games industry. Our mission is to empower EA's studios to deliver world-class games by providing innovative, reliable, and scalable animation and cinematics technologies and workflows. Our work has a significant impact on the final quality of games enjoyed by millions of players.

As a Technical Lead, you will oversee feature development, maintenance and support for the Animation & Cinematics team. You will be a domain expert and engineering architect, guide technical direction, and bring the latest industry experience to the team.

Job Location: You will work in Burnaby, BC 


Responsibilities:

  • You will deliver organizationally aligned and risk managed technical plans to bring both Features and Architectural projects to completion on time and at quality.

  • You will mentor and grow the engineering talent on the team.

  • You will be accountable for estimation accuracy, software delivery quality and maintainability, automation strategy, and development processes.

  • You will communicate and enforce technical organisation and technical policies (e.g. estimation processes, coding standards, divergence policies, check-in procedures, stability process, generative AI use policies).

  • You will collaborate with leadership to identify technology and process gaps in plans, raise awareness across domains, and develop mitigations and process improvements to avoid gaps in the future.

  • You will will be an individual contributor with 30% to 50% of your time spent writing code.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience, in computer science or related field.

  • 10+ years of game or equivalent industry technical experience.

  • Experience providing technical leadership for a medium sized team of engineers.

  • Strong knowledge of C++ and C# programming languages.

  • Broad knowledge of and experience in game development with console, PC, or mobile platforms, including tools, pipelines and runtime systems.

  • Understanding of branches of math related to 3d animation such as Linear Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, and Trigonometry

  • Broad knowledge of and experience in game systems development, memory management and performance analysis and optimization.

  • Understanding of software development life cycle, software engineering methodologies and practices, and software quality assurance concepts.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The ranges listed below are what EA in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in these locations at the time of this posting. If you reside in a different location, a recruiter will advise on the applicable range and benefits. Pay offered will be determined based on a number of relevant business and candidate factors (e.g. education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, or business needs). 

PAY RANGES

* British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria) *$138,700 - $199,900 CAD

In British Columbia, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top-up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
