Our Motive is to develop innovative action games set in iconic worlds where every player feels like the hero. Let's say that again—iconic worlds where every player feels like the hero.

Our passion has taken us from imagining dogfighter pilots in Star Wars™: Squadrons to re-creating Isaac Clarke onboard the Ishimura in Dead Space™. Currently, we're working on two exciting projects, an original Iron Man™ action-adventure game and what's coming next for Battlefield™.

We believe in sharing our passion with our community and each other, fostering an inclusive culture, and nurturing a growth mindset. Although our approach may seem simple, it leads us to create the best work of our careers, bringing unique and immersive experiences to our players.

Motive Studio is looking for a talented VFX Artist for Battlefield! As a VFX artist, you bring dynamic realism to the battlefield, creating immersive visual effects that captivate players and enhance the gaming experience. Your creativity and technical skills blend to create effects such as lifelike explosions, destruction effects, weather effects, and other visual effects, adding depth and excitement to every moment. In this role, you collaborate with a passionate team to collectively craft a visually unforgettable experience that defines the best in gaming.

Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the Lead VFX artist, and under the direction of Lead and Senior Artists, you will create a wide range of high-quality effects that communicate gameplay and enhance the player's experience. These FX assets will be created for in-game environments, gameplay, cinematics, and scripted events. Aim to reach an industry-leading quality bar and raise the product experience.  FX assets include particle systems, meshes, shaders, textures, rigid body sims, and animations

  • Create FX Assets using EA's proprietary game engine, according to the agreed design and within the constraints of the target hardware and software. There is an emphasis on knowledge sharing between different teams throughout EA's studios.

  • Build technical and aesthetic considerations for the project's visual effect art style. A balance must be achieved between high visual quality and staying within our performance constraints.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of real-time VFX experience in the games industry, or equivalent demonstrable real-time experience.

  • Production experience developing for console games to create real-time VFX with a supporting body of work.

  • Experience in 2D packages such as Photoshop, After Effects, or Nuke.

  • Experience in 3D packages such as Max or Maya.

  • Knowledge of environmental effects, lighting, and dynamics.

  • Prior experience working across multiple departments.

  • Technical skills to help create new visual effects art pipelines.

Additional Nice-To-Have Skills:

  • Hands-on experience with Unity Visual Graph Editor or Unreal Niagara.

  • Knowledge of Substance Designer.

  • Experience with Houdini

  • Prior experience with Frostbite.

  • Experience with a scripting language is a big plus (HLSL, Python).

3D Portfolio Requirements**

A link to your portfolio must be included with your application. All portfolios should contain a breakdown of the work. It must be very clear what you are responsible for in your reel, screenshots, scanned pictures, and/or web page portfolio.

(Please include as many of the following elements as you can)

  • Examples of natural and organic effects (smoke, fire, waterfalls).

  • Examples of fantastical effects animation (spells, explosions).
