Job Title: VFX Artist 2 — Apex Legends

Location: Vancouver, BC · Los Angeles, CA · Madison, WI

Work Model: Hybrid

Respawn Entertainment

Founded in 2010, Respawn was created with the philosophy that when talented

people have creative freedom, they'll make extraordinary games that achieve the

unexpected. Respawn Entertainment is the Academy Award-winning studio

behind Apex Legends, Titanfall, and Star Wars™ Jedi titles. Join us to help shape

the future of one of the world's leading live service franchises.

Respawn Entertainment is seeking a VFX Artist to support the Apex Legends

content creation team. In this role, you will create and implement real-time

effects that bring Legends, weapons, and seasonal moments to life — reporting to

the VFX Director and collaborating closely with Art, Design, Animation, and

Engineering to deliver polished, performant VFX across the full breadth of Apex's

live service. You will apply your understanding of timing, shape, motion, and

color to help build the Apex universe while maintaining our competitive

readability.

Responsibilities

Create and implement real-time VFX for legend abilities, weapons, seasonal content, environmental moments, and gameplay events across the Apex Legends live service.

Elevate seasonal content drops with effects that bring energy, impact, and visual identity to new characters, weapon releases, and limited-time events.

Coordinate with Art, Design, Animation, and Engineering throughout development to ensure VFX match the quality bar and vision for each content area.

Solve VFX-related problems and help fix bugs, including performance and memory budget issues, as they arise across the content pipeline.

Help improve VFX pipelines, tools, and creation techniques to support the quality and pace demands of a live service game.

Qualifications

2+ years of professional experience as a real-time VFX artist in the games industry.

Demonstrable ability to create high-quality real-time VFX for games, with a portfolio of shipped in-game work.

Proficiency with relevant DCC tools such as Maya, Houdini, Photoshop, or Substance Designer, and experience implementing your own work within a game engine or proprietary toolset.

Strong cross-discipline communication and collaboration skills with a proactive approach to feedback and problem-solving.

Passion for making and playing games.

Experience with first-person or competitive multiplayer games in a live-service context is a plus.

Shipped AAA game credit is a plus.
