Associate Director, UX Design - EA SPORTS™ NHL

EA SPORTS is one of the most iconic brands in entertainment – connecting hundreds of millions around the world to the sports they love through a portfolio of industry-leading video games.

EA SPORTS NHL has revolutionized sports gaming for millions of players worldwide. We’ve pioneered award-winning creative technology and experiences to connect players to the speed, skill, and heart of the NHL.

The EA SPORTS NHL franchise is founded on passion and new ideas. Located in Vancouver, British Columbia, the team is composed of diverse talent dedicated to creating on-ice experiences that connect gamers around the world through play. If you're a creative pioneer with a passion for your craft, this will be more than a job. It’ll be what you love.

Are you a UX leader who thrives on pushing boundaries and shaping the future of interactive sports experiences? EA SPORTS NHL is seeking an innovative and tenacious UX leader to drive world-class design across our franchise. If you love crafting intuitive, immersive, and player-first experiences while seamlessly integrating with a high-performance design team, this is your opportunity to make an impact on one of the most beloved sports gaming franchises in the industry.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead and elevate the end-to-end UX strategy for the EA SPORTS NHL franchise.
  • Champion a player-first approach, leveraging research, behavioral insights, and design thinking to craft engaging, emotive, and intuitive player experiences.
  • Create and iterate —sketching multiple low-fidelity wireframes one day, deliver interactive prototypes on another, all while driving UX solutions that balance innovation with technical realities.
  • Seamlessly collaborate with cross-functional teams, including game designers, UI artists, engineers, and producers, to inject exceptional UX practices into every facet of the game and development process.
  • Drive UX excellence through hands-on design, feature ownership, and continuous iteration—from concept to live product.
  • Effectively sell your vision, using visual storytelling and UX methodologies to gain stakeholder buy-in and drive alignment across teams.
  • Translate research into action, ensuring that usability testing, behavioral analytics, and player feedback directly inform UX improvements and optimizations.

Qualifications:

  • A fierce passion for UX and a deep understanding of usability, human factors, and interaction design.
  • 5+ years of hands-on UX experience, ideally within console gaming or digital products with complex user flows and microtransactions.
  • A sharp, strategic mind—you don’t just design, you problem-solve, think critically, and advocate for the player.
  • Mastery of UX tools like Figma, Axure, Adobe Creative Suite, and wireframing/prototyping techniques.
  • Exceptional communication skills—you're able to articulate UX concepts clearly and inspire others with your vision.
  • An eye for detail and a bias for action—you take initiative, drive solutions forward, and don’t let obstacles slow you down.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing high-impact UX leadership and design solutions that drive engagement, retention, and delight.
  • A passion for gaming and sports—bonus points if you live and breathe hockey and understand what makes NHL fans tick.

Why Join Us?

At EA SPORTS NHL, we’re not just making games—we’re crafting immersive experiences that millions of players around the world live and breathe. This is your chance to lead UX for one of the most iconic sports franchises, collaborate with an exceptional team, and shape the future of interactive hockey.
Are you ready to make an impact? Apply now and bring your UX game to the NHL franchise!
