Role Overview


As a Lead Engineer on the FC Mobile team, you’ll help shape the foundation that powers the world’s most popular mobile football experience. You will design, build, and lead large-scale, high-performance systems and web experiences that support live features for millions of players. You will manage engineers while working closely with designers, engineers, quality verification (QV) testers, and product owners to deliver reliable and scalable solutions. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines technical ownership, people management, and active contribution to architecture and development. You will play a crucial role in providing technical leadership, overseeing project execution, and mentoring team members while ensuring engineering best practices are consistently followed. 

This role reports to the Technical Director.

 

Responsibilities

  • Technical operations
    • Partner with product owners during the planning phase to assess technical risks, implement mitigation strategies, and evaluate implementation approaches before development begins
    • Set up, monitor, and maintain technical KPIs to ensure stable live operations and minimal downtime
    • Design, architect, develop, and maintain complex web systems with a strong focus on scalability, performance, and reliability
    • Provide technical guidance and conduct code reviews to ensure software quality and adherence to engineering best practices
    • Establish and enforce coding standards to ensure code quality, maintainability, and proper documentation
  • Project management
    • Serve as the primary technical owner of the software development lifecycle (SDLC)
    • Collaborate with project managers to provide technical estimates, manage priorities and resources, and ensure on-time delivery
    • Partner with product owners and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure alignment on delivery priorities and execution plans
    • Facilitate communication and coordination across engineering teams for cross-functional initiatives and development efforts 
  • People management
    • Lead and inspire a team of software engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment
    • Mentor and develop team members, supporting technical growth and career development


Qualifications

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 3 years leading or managing software development teams, with a strong track record of delivering successful software projects
  • Experience leading large-scale, high-traffic projects or platforms
  • Strong foundation in computer science fundamentals (e.g., data structures, algorithms, networking, and operating systems)
  • Extensive experience in online service operations, including performance testing, production monitoring, and incident resolution
  • Leadership and project management experience, with the ability to guide and motivate a team
  • Excellent debugging, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Familiarity with software development best practices, including Agile methodologies
