Building on an incredible 30-year foundation, we’re redefining football with EA SPORTS FC - a genre-leading ecosystem of interactive experiences, bringing a global community of football fans closer to The World's Game. We are looking for a Senior Mobile Technical Gameplay Designer (2D) to lead the creation of new ways to play with Ultimate Team content.
You will define and build prototypes of new forms of play for FUT on mobile where players use their existing content in new ways — from early concept through playable prototypes and beyond.
This is a 0–1 design role at the heart of FUT’s next evolution. You’ll help us discover the core toy — the moment-to-moment fun — that makes FUT on mobile uniquely engaging.
You will report to the Game Design Director and collaborate closely with XD, engineers, product owners, and other designers..
Responsibilities:
- Prototype & Experiment Quickly: Design and build fast, playable 2D prototypes that explore new play systems, features, and modes for FUT on mobile.
- Define the Core Experience: Identify and shape the “toy” that makes Ultimate Team fun and expressive in a mobile-first context.
- Drive 0–1 Design: Take early ideas from pitch through first playable, iterating rapidly based on feedback and playtesting.
- Collaborate Across Disciplines: Work closely with engineers, producers, and the console FUT team to align design direction and ensure technical feasibility.
- Champion Quality & Fun: Apply deep interactivity and systems thinking to deliver experiences that feel authentic to FUT and satisfying to play.
- Mentor & Lead: Set the bar for prototyping craft and inspire designers to think creatively and technically.
- Innovate with Purpose: Use player insights, data, and market trends to inform and refine your prototypes.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of professional game design experience, with at least 3 years focused on mobile interactive design.
- Proven ability to take a feature or game from concept to launch, iterating based on feedback and data.
- Strong technical proficiency with game engines such as Unity or Unreal, and scripting languages such as React Native, C#, Lua, or equivalents.
- Demonstrated experience designing 2D gameplay systems or interactive toys.
- A passion for rapid prototyping and creative problem-solving.
- Deep understanding of football culture and the FUT ecosystem.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills across disciplines.
What This Role Is Not:
- This is not an economy, meta, or progression design role.
- This is not a classic paper design role
Ideal Candidate:
- Thrives in early-stage, ambiguous problem spaces (0–1 design) autonomously.
- Enjoys game jams, side projects, and experimenting with new ideas.
- Combines creativity with technical know-how to turn ideas into playable experiences.
- Is passionate about football, mobile games, and pushing what FUT can be.
- British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria)
- $111,600 - $152,800 CAD
In British Columbia, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top-up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full-time employees.
