The Role: The Online Software Engineer for Career Mode works on the most played Online features 

As part of this team, you will help develop the tech, tools, and frameworks that form the foundation of the Career and Tournament modes, along with working on new features every year. 


You will report to the Development Director and work with your Technical Lead to estimate, build, and improve projects. Together with a talented team of +20 engineers, you will work on the technology, tools, and pipelines that form the foundation of our game features, C++ based backend functionality, UI framework and components, content and localization pipelines, content creation tools, and more. You will also develop the game features that are common across teams, including features such as player customization, team management, settings, and accessibility


Responsibilities:

  • Feature Development: Implement new features and expand existing systems across Career Manager, Career Player, Live Starting Point, Manager Live, and Tournament modes.

  • Server-Side Engineering: Leverage EA’s Digital Platform technologies to design and implement server features, components, and services that ensure reliability and scalability.

  • Client-Side Integration: Develop and maintain client code to support new features, enhance multiplayer interactions, and improve overall player experience.

  • Optimization & Performance: Profile and optimize both client and server systems to improve latency, reliability, memory usage, and large-scale performance.

  • System Architecture: Design, document, and iterate on solution architectures for live systems, tools, and workflows.

  • Issue Resolution: Proactively troubleshoot, debug, and resolve technical challenges that arise during development and live operations.

  • End-to-End Ownership: Drive full lifecycle delivery of your tasks, including backend logic, gameplay flows, UI screens, and custom UI components.

  • Collaboration with Creative Teams: Partner with designers and producers to translate creative concepts into technically sound, reliable solutions.

  • Code Quality: Contribute to a high-quality codebase through reviews, best practices, and a culture of technical excellence.

  • Transparent Communication: Share progress with peers, report to technical leadership and production, and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Team Contribution: Actively participate in a dynamic team dedicated to building and evolving the foundations of Career and Tournament modes, delivering impactful new features every year.



Qualifications:

  • Programming Expertise: Strong background in object-oriented programming and design principles, with proven ability to write clean, maintainable, and scalable code.

  • Professional Experience: 4+ years of hands-on software development in C++, with additional experience in C#; open and eager to learn new technologies and frameworks.

  • Computer Science Fundamentals: Solid understanding of algorithms, data structures, and performance optimization.

  • Codebase Mastery: Ability to quickly analyze, understand, and extend high-complexity legacy or unfamiliar code, while adapting to multiple existing coding styles.

  • End-to-End Ownership: Proven capability to deliver features across the full lifecycle—defining technical solutions, collaborating with partners, implementing on schedule, and addressing issues promptly.

  • Networking Knowledge: Experience with networked applications or features, including client/server and peer-to-peer architectures.

  • Systems Engineering: Experience with developing and debugging multi-threaded and concurrent systems.

  • Database Experience: Familiarity with relational databases such as SQL/MySQL, with the ability to design and optimize queries for performance.

  • Problem-Solving Mindset: Comfortable embracing challenges, finding innovative solutions, and maintaining a high level of adaptability in fast-paced environments.

  • Collaboration & Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a track record of working effectively across disciplines, teams, and partners to achieve shared goals.

Nice to have:

  • Experience in UI technologies (Qt, Unity or Unreal UI frameworks).

  • Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, Lua), C# 

  • Familiarity with non-relational/NoSQL databases such as Redis, MongoDB.

  • Experience working within an agile team.

  • Experience with log analysis and tools such as Splunk.

  • Experience with Visual Studio and deep knowledge of debugging tools.

  • Knowledge of RPC and REST-based APIs.

  • Knowledge of networking protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, UDP).

  • Experience working with Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo game consoles.

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent training and professional experience.
