Role Overview
The DICE Audio department is looking for a technical sound designer to join the Battlefield audio team in our mission to create amazing sounding games and player experiences. You are driven, curious, creative and have a passion for technical sound design and sound design. You are a problem solver and have a strong willingness to learn more about audio as a craft and push the boundaries of what is possible in game audio to create the best audible experience for our players.
Above all you are an excellent listener and thrive in a collaborative creative environment. You are passionate about teamwork and collaboration both within the audio department but also cross teams, disciplines and studios.
As a Technical Sound Designer at DICE you will focus on the technical aspect of game audio; planning and creating a technical foundation for our projects, whilst maintaining existing systems. The role can be very broad and can be very complex, touching multiple audio aspects on a single title or across all projects. You will be working in an established and experienced audio team where you will find opportunities for creative growth and mentoring from more senior team members.
Responsibilities
- Create and implement sound assets that live up to our creative and technical goals, and iterate on these.
- Create, maintain, and share information about processes, best-practices and performance within the wider audio team.
- Work closely with fellow sound designers to identify pain points and opportunities in our workflows and pipelines.
- Identify and remove risk (areas) from the projects.
- Test systems and assets in the game, concerning functionality, performance, optimization, consistency and readability.
- Explore and implement procedural solutions and workflows which benefit the audio team and minimize time spent on non-productive or repetitive tasks.
Qualifications
- Someone with 2+ years of experience working with game audio implementation or related.
- Has proficiency in at least one of the current generation of industry-standard audio tools and workflows, such as UE5, Metasounds, Wwise, FMOD, Unity, Frostbite etc.
- Understands logic-based systems and has a working knowledge of node based visual scripting tools, such as Unreal Blueprints, Pure Data, Max, Frostbite, Reaktor, modular synthesis etc.
- Someone experienced with modern audio creation equipment, software and recording techniques, with a high level of proficiency in at least one DAW: Reaper is preferred.
- A person with Python (or other) scripting language(s) experience; proficiency is a plus. Coding experience with C, C++, C#, Lua.
- Has proven artistic qualities and is excellent at interpreting reference and following direction.
- Has an ability to communicate clearly.
- Has strong debugging skills and an ability to work with, and enhance, legacy systems.
- Has a solid appreciation and understanding of how sound works in real-life. A sense for realism and believability, whilst being able to favor readability to support gameplay.
- Has a broad understanding of technical workflows and integrating audio into the game environment using the tools at hand, creating with quality and efficiency whilst being mindful of performance constraints.
- Has the ability to design and implement audio workflows with focus on efficiency, usability, consistency and sustainability.
- Someone who is eager to learn and contribute to a collaborative, transparent and learning culture within the team and who takes an active interest in improving the audio in our games and as a craft pushing the boundaries of sound in our games.
