Ultimate Team is a mode within EA Sports FC that lets you build your dream squad, play matches to earn Coins, use the Transfer Market to buy and sell Player Items, and create your Ultimate Team to make your mark on the pitch. Behind the scenes, Ultimate Team is a live service with multiple platforms (console clients, PC, comp app, web app) working with online services to make the mode a success.
As our Software Engineer you will report to the team's Development Director. You will work on complex problems with Producers, Designers, Artists and other Engineers in domains including game mode logic, user interface, online, and tools.
Your Responsibilities:
Work hands-on with Server and Client engineers to build, connect, and validate end-to-end gameplay and services functionality.
Design, implement, and integrate REST-based HTTP APIs that support live game features.
Contribute to and collaborate with the game’s UI technology stack.
Design, write, test, debug, and maintain clean, scalable code for game features and systems.
Own technical designs—from architecture through documentation and implementation.
Help improve team processes and engineering best practices, with a measurable impact on quality and delivery.
Collaborate daily with engineers, designers, producers, and other partners across teams and locations.
Your Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent real-world experience.
5+ years of professional software development experience, with strong engineering fundamentals.
Solid experience with C++, including best practices and system-level design.
A good understanding of object-oriented design and online services (RESTful HTTP).
Strong debugging and problem-solving skills, including experience with networking and memory management.
Working knowledge of XML and JSON data formats.
Experience using Visual Studio and modern source control systems.
Bonus points for experience with Live Service games.
Clear communication skills and a collaborative, team-first mindset.
Comfort working with legacy codebases, including identifying risks and improving stability over time.
