SEED is a pioneering group within Electronic Arts that combines creativity with applied research. We explore, build, and help define the future of interactive entertainment.
Joining the team of applied researchers in graphics, AI, physics, and animation at SEED is a new initiative where we dive into the world of game mechanics, storytelling magic, and interactive wonders that ignite player creativity and engagement. It’s all about breaking the mold and dreaming up experiences that are not just fun but also groundbreaking and thought-provoking.
Join us in creating unique novel experiences at the intersection of creativity and technology to captivate and inspire our players at Electronic Arts. We’re blending artistic vision with technical wizardry and an understanding of what makes players tick. Our goal is to create jaw-dropping experiences that challenge what’s possible in gaming. We are all in on rapid innovation, harnessing the latest tech and boundless creativity to push gaming boundaries. We want to ignite new ideas and craft experiences that will thrill and inspire.
We are looking for a Game Design Director to be the creative vision holder, pushing the boundaries of game design, game mechanics, and narrative methods that spark player creativity and joy.
You have a profound understanding of game mechanics, player experience, and storytelling, along with a creative mindset. You also have experience leading AAA game design teams, a love for games, and the ability to inspire and mentor others, aligning them with the vision. We believe in the power of collaboration between gameplay, art, and engineering; you will connect their ideas with the latest technology and research developed at SEED and EA, to create novel experiences that were previously unattainable.
This new initiative is made up of a hybrid of top talent, all working together in the beautiful city of Montréal, Québec, Canada. With its rich history of game development, this vibrant, creative hub is the perfect backdrop for our endeavour.
You will report to SEED’s Head of Technology. This role is also a team lead role, and all other team members will report to you.
As a Game Design Director, you will:
Oversee the team's vision and the technical game design of the gameplay prototypes.
Define and orchestrate the framework for rapid brainstorming and execution within the team.
Accountable for agreement across requirements to ensure feasibility and that the design of all prototypes aligns with the creative vision, targeting novel game experiences in the form of demos and prototypes.
Frame and communicate the story behind the work to gain support across the company.
Perform hands-on work within the game engine, working directly with tools rather than focusing solely on theoretical or paper-based design.
As a diverse team with solid goals, we provide autonomy and true influence to each team member. We are looking for an open and curious person who gets a kick out of taking new ideas, investigating them, and adapting their application to games. You have a desire to explore new areas of game development—someone who is passionate, creative, communicative, and invested.

Lead a team of diverse backgrounds and expertise, inspiring and guiding around the creative vision, for both creative and technical aspects of game development.
Hands-on experience with AAA game engines and game development tools.
