A UI Software Engineer will develop the technology, tools, and frameworks that form the user interface, and will work in a dynamic team to develop new features every year. As a lead, you will report to a technical director, and guide other UI engineers on technical vision and execution, and support the design and building of components that bring our features to life. Above all, we are looking for someone that is excited to use their talent and experience to deliver high-quality user interfaces in a AAA game.
This role follows a hybrid model: 2 days remote and 3 days onsite at our Burnaby studio.
Your responsibilities as an Engineer
Design and build new features, or extend existing ones, with quality and scalability in mind.
Partner with designers to gather requirements, evaluate options, and propose solid technical solutions.
Implement feature logic, game flows, and UI screens, owning your work from concept through delivery.
Collaborate daily with a large, cross-disciplinary engineering team.
Your responsibilities as a Lead
Guide and mentor a team of internal and external UI engineers, setting clear technical direction.
Define, enforce, and evolve UI development best practices.
Drive the design and implementation of new UI technologies, features, and workflows.
Plan and deliver improvements to existing systems, balancing quality, performance, and timelines.
Monitor and uphold performance standards, including tracking and enforcing key metrics.
Collaborate closely with engineering partners, artists, and designers across the studio.
Partner with project managers to scope work, plan schedules, and manage delivery expectations.
Play an active role in engineering hiring, performance reviews, and goal setting
Your Qualifications:
5+ years of professional C++ development experience.
1+ year of technical leadership experience, guiding engineers or owning technical direction.
Strong knowledge of data-driven and object-oriented design.
Familiarity with UI design patterns such as MVVM.
Proficiency with debugging and profiling tools.
Experience working with version control systems in team environments.
A track record of architecting and implementing complex systems within large codebases.
Bonuses:
Experience with scripting languages.
Familiarity with large-scale game engines, especially Frostbite.
Experience with cross-platform and console development.
Experience shipping UI systems for a AAA title.
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
