Please note: this is an on-site hybrid role. Candidates must be available to work on-site at our Victoria, B.C. studio 3 x per week.

The Animation Technical Artist provides specialized support to the animation teams, either in DCC and engine workflows,or technology development in ML, clip processing and asset management. The Animation Technical Artist helps push visual boundaries and experiences for our players by combining creativity and imagination with technical expertise.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the Animation Director, Development Directors, Artists and Engineers to refine and improve workflows to tackle technical challenges and increase efficiency.
Leverage common technology and implement tools from other internal projects on to ours
Build new tools and workflows that allow artists to improve the visual boundaries and experiences for our players.
Qualifications:
5+ years of games production experience working in technical art in animation desired
In depth and incomparable expertise with relevant 3D software packages such as Maya and Motionbuilder.
A bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in a related field.
An understanding of designing skeletons, control rigs, secondary animation (fat, jiggle, muscle sim), and skin deformations for games.
An understanding of human anatomy and animation principles.
Proficient scripting/programming in Python (C++/C# a bonus).
A willingness to jump into the unknown and solve new problems to resolve technical challenges and limitations.
Experience in working with content-driven game engines (e.g. Unreal, Unity, Frostbite) desired.
Love of sports and games, all kinds.
Beneficial Qualifications
Good communication and organizational skills.
Experience working on diverse animation styles.
Frostbite Experience
Experience with Slack/Jira/Shotgrid
Knowledge of state machines and motion matching
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The ranges listed below are what EA in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in these locations at the time of this posting. If you reside in a different location, a recruiter will advise on the applicable range and benefits. Pay offered will be determined based on a number of relevant business and candidate factors (e.g. education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, or business needs).
PAY RANGES
In British Columbia, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top-up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
