Description & Requirements

Electronic Arts creates next-level entertainment experiences that inspire players and fans around the world. Here, everyone is part of the story. Part of a community that connects across the globe. A place where creativity thrives, new perspectives are invited, and ideas matter. A team where everyone makes play happen.

The Battlefield franchise continues to expand its Free-to-Play and Battle Royale experiences, and we are looking for an experienced Development Director to lead Quality Verification (QV) efforts for this product pillar. You will oversee quality execution across development and live service, ensuring a high-quality, scalable, and reliable player experience.

You will sit at the intersection of development, live operations, and player quality, serving as a critical partner across multiple teams throughout the product lifecycle. You will lead QV strategy, people management, and cross-team collaboration while being the primary QV leader for Battlefield's Free-to-Play and Battle Royale products.

You will report directly to Director of Software Delivery, Battlefield QV.

We are a hybrid remote/in-office team.

Responsibilities

  • Live Service Quality & Game Operations
  • Lead quality strategy for live service operations supporting Battlefield's Free-to-Play and Battle Royale experiences.
  • Partner with Game Operations, Live Service, and Development leadership to anticipate risks, establish quality guardrails, and ensure smooth daily live operations.
  • Oversee monitoring of real-time game health metrics, error logs, crash data, and service telemetry to identify trends and lead quality improvements.
  • Lead release readiness, live-site incident response, and post-release quality evaluations, ensuring quality with internal and external partners.
  • Use data and insights to assess release progress, readiness, and approval.
  • Development Support & Pre-Release Quality
  • Oversee QV execution for in-development features from concept through submission and live deployment.
  • Partner with Engineering, Production, Design, and Product teams to define test strategies, quality requirements, and acceptance criteria.
  • Standardize and improve workflows and planning practices across the Battlefield franchise to lead predictability and delivery confidence.
  • Ensure test strategies, coverage, and validation approaches scale for high-frequency Free-to-Play and Battle Royale content updates.
  • Coordinate agreement on priorities, risks, and quality outcomes throughout development.
  • Quality Strategy & Continuous Improvement
  • Advance QV practices across Battlefield by advocating for defect prevention, improving containment strategies, and expanding test automation and tooling.
  • Promote data-informed decision-making through the use of telemetry, insights, and quality metrics.
  • Contribute to studio-wide and franchise-level plans that enhance quality standards player experience.

People Leadership

  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of Quality Designers and QV leaders, including hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance management, and long-term career development.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, collaboration, and player-first thinking.
  • Ensure team structure, resourcing, and skills align with our product needs.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in the games or software industry.
  • 7+ years of experience in Quality Assurance / Quality Verification within game or software development or related field.
  • At least 4 years of experience in a leadership or people-management role.
  • Experience supporting live service, Free-to-Play, or Battle Royale products, including post-launch operations.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with partners and distributed teams.
  • Experience presenting to senior leadership and team verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering high-quality player and product experiences.

Relevant

  • Familiarity with common game development engines and toolsets (e.g., Unreal, Unity).
  • Experience with industry-standard project and test management tools such as JIRA, Confluence, DevTest, or TestRail.
  • Working knowledge of Agile development methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban.
  • Experience using data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Power BI).
  • Familiarity with test automation frameworks and telemetry or observability systems.

What This Role isn't

  • This is not an individual contributor role.
  • While you will maintain engagement with quality execution, you will not focus on completing routine testing tasks.
  • You will be in a leadership position focused on people management, quality strategy, cross-team orchestration, and delivering a high-quality Battlefield live service experience.
