UI Software Engineer II – Formula 1

Location: Birmingham, UK.

Work Model: Hybrid (3 days per week onsite).

This is a hybrid or in-office position, based in our Birmingham UK studio.

 

We are looking for an experienced UI Engineer, reporting to the Group Lead.  Our UI Engineers help bring the game’s rich 2D and 3D UI screens to life and are responsible for all technical aspects of UI features, including frontend screens, in-game HUD elements, user interactions and overall user experience. The focus is on delivering the vision of the UI art and design teams to build remarkable games that are a joy to interact with.

Responsibilities:

  • Take an active part in developing technical designs and implementations, from concept through to final delivery, for significant UI features

  • Working closely with the group lead, and the production team, to evaluate new features, assess the technical feasibility, provide task estimates, and help define and manage project scope

  • Implement high quality code and interact with complex features within a large codebase

  • Collaborate with other engineering groups and specialist disciplines, including artists, game designers and audio

  • Debug, maintain, optimise and extend existing UI systems and features

  • Test and refine features, including implementing automated feature testing where relevant

  • Collaborate with other team members to share knowledge and experience

  • Participate in mentoring junior developers 

  • Help identify technical debt in areas of the code

  • Help guide the future requirements for the underlying UI technology

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Expert C++ knowledge (4+ years).

  • Expertise in UI related programming.

  • Shipped a full-lifecycle title in a UI related role.

  • Experience with working with data-driven systems and object-oriented designs.

  • Experience with UI design patterns (MVVM in particular).

  • Experience with debugging and profiling tools.

  • Familiar with working with finite state machines.

  • Familiarity with 3D Maths and geometry.

  • Cross platform and console development experience.
