Our Motive is to create innovative action games within iconic worlds where every player feels like the hero. Let's say that again—iconic worlds, where every player feels like the hero.

Our passion has taken us from imagining dogfighter pilots in Star WarsSquadrons, to re-creating Isaac Clarke onboard the Ishimura in Dead Space™, and now to building an original Iron Man action-adventure video game.

We believe in sharing our passion with our community, and with each other by having transparent discussions, by practicing an inclusive culture, and by nurturing a continuous growth mindset. Our approach feels simple, but it leads to the best work of our careers, and as a team, building unique and immersive experiences.

Motive is looking for a Narrative Designer to join our team. In this role, you will work in close collaboration with the Narrative, Art and Mission teams, and be responsible for creating and seamlessly integrating narrative elements into the game. With the goal of delivering a cohesive and memorable story-driven experience.

Responsibilities:

Generate compelling story ideas and narrative context for missions and gameplay activities.

  • Collaborate with Writers and the Mission Pod to create narrative experiences that harmoniously combine story and gameplay.
  • Implement in-game dialogue and conversations using Unreal Engine 5 and our custom narrative pipeline.
  • Provide supplemental writing for in-game dialogue and player-facing text.
  • Contribute to the development of processes, workflows and narrative tools.
  • Communicate progress, workflows, and availability of narrative features to content creators and production.

Qualifications:

  • You have a passion for storytelling and narrative delivery in games.
  • You've gained demonstrable experience as a narrative designer or technical game writer.
  • Proven experience working within the gaming industry.
  • In-depth understanding of narrative structure and what makes an emotional impact to players.
  • Familiarity with game design and interactive storytelling mechanics.
  • Ability to write, communicate and maintain design documentation.
  • You possess strong communication, organizational, and technical skills.
  • Experience with game scripting systems or equivalent narrative integration tools.
  • Unreal 5 experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, multi-site, distributed team structure.
  • Ability to articulate feedback and apply notes from multiple sources.
  • Desire to learn, improve, and build skills.
