Description & Requirements

Electronic Arts creates next-level entertainment experiences that inspire players and fans around the world. Here, everyone is part of the story. Part of a community that connects across the globe. A place where creativity thrives, new perspectives are invited, and ideas matter. A team where everyone makes play happen.

The EA SPORTS UFC franchise delivers the spectacle, intensity, and authenticity of MMA to tens of millions of players around the world. As the team strives to build the greatest fighting game in the world, online play sits at the heart of how fans compete, connect, and grow together.

As an Online Software Engineer, you will help design and build the systems that power our connected experience: social features, matchmaking, live events, progression systems, and cross-platform interactions enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of players concurrently. Your work will directly influence how players challenge each other, support each other, engage with real-world UFC events, and build lasting communities.

If you’re passionate about scalable systems, live-service gameplay, and building meaningful social features for a global audience, this is an opportunity to make a real impact.

You will be working on a hybrid model, 3 days a week out of our EAV Studio in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Your Impact

Build the Connected UFC Experience

  • Develop and extend online game features that enable players to play together, socialize, compete, support each other, and track shared accomplishments across platforms.

  • Implement systems that help deliver an authentic, premium live service experience aligned with UFC events, fighter moments, and seasonal content.

  • Work across the full stack: client, server, backend services, online workflows, and databases.

Engineering Excellence for Scale

  • Build solutions that are scalable, efficient, robust, and sustainable, supporting massive concurrency across global regions.

  • Ensure online systems remain stable, performant, and maintainable throughout development and live service updates.

  • Solve complex real time multiplayer and networking challenges that elevate competitive play.

Collaborate Across Domains

  • Partner closely with gameplay, modes, operations, production, design, and QA to ensure online systems integrate seamlessly with the overall experience.

  • Work with central technology groups, engine teams, and external partners to leverage shared services and maintain high quality standards.

  • Collaborate with backend and platform teams to build secure, extensible, cross-platform systems.

Innovate & Evolve

  • Iterate on live features, workflows, and tools based on real-world player behavior and operational insights.

  • Explore ways to use AI-assisted tools to improve development workflows, automation, validation, or player-facing systems.

  • Contribute to new ideas for social engagement, matchmaking, progression, live events, and online play incentives.

Your Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience as a software engineer developing online games or scalable online applications.

  • Strong proficiency in C++ and comfort working in large, real-time codebases.

  • Experience working with database technologies (e.g., SQL, NoSQL).

  • Practical understanding of networked systems: client/server models, service integration, latency considerations, and multithreaded environments.

  • Ability to collaborate across diverse teams and break down complex problems into clean, maintainable solutions.

  • Passion for building engaging online and social features for players.

Preferred (Nice to Have)

  • Experience with first party platform services and APIs (PSN, Xbox Live).

  • Experience or interest in using AI tools to accelerate development, testing, or operations workflows.

  • Experience with scripting languages (Python, Lua) or backend service stacks.

  • Familiarity with live-service games or highly concurrent online systems.

Why Join Us
