Description & Requirements

Electronic Arts creates next-level entertainment experiences that inspire players and fans around the world. Here, everyone is part of the story. Part of a community that connects across the globe. A place where creativity thrives, new perspectives are invited, and ideas matter. A team where everyone makes play happen.

Founded in 2010 by the original creators of the Call of Duty Franchise, Respawn was created with the philosophy that when talented people have creative freedom, they’ll make extraordinary games that achieve the unexpected. From our roots as an indie studio to joining the expansive roster of studios at Electronic Arts, this remains our guiding principle. We truly love what we do and want to share our passion with players worldwide.

Our shipped titles include critically acclaimed multi-platform games Apex Legends, Titanfall, Titanfall 2, Star Wars™ Jedi: Fallen Order,  Star Wars™ Jedi: Survivor, and Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond.

Join us for the opportunity to create groundbreaking games with some of the best developer talent in the industry.

We’re looking for a highly-skilled Principal Level Designer to join our Star Wars Jedi team. You will craft memorable blockbuster levels that players will want to play and inspire other team members to help create. We’re picturing someone who is a master at their craft and is able to construct an experience for players down to the smallest detail.

What you’ll do...

  • Reporting to the Level Design Director, work closely with the Game Directors and departments such as Environment Art, Narrative, and Combat Design to deliver level designs that epitomize the creative vision of the game.

  • Contribute to establishing and enforcing consistent design practices, constraints, and metrics throughout projects.

  • Help serve as an advocate for the department’s goals, needs, and desires. Help remove roadblocks, raise red flags, etc.

  • Help set a high quality bar through hands-on creation and ownership of level designs from conception to the final stages of polish, facilitating communication and coordinating departments to ensure the vision is clearly understood.

  • Actively self-critique and accept outside critique. The more feedback you receive, the more you can tailor your work towards what is best for the game.

  • Support and mentor other designers and lead by example.

Ideally, you will have...

  • 7+ years’  experience in the games industry working in a level design capacity, shipping at least two titles.

  • Extensive understanding of level design process including level flow, engagement, structure, pacing, environmental storytelling, testing, etc.

  • Experience working with a game engine (ideally Unreal), using scripting tools to orchestrate events, and implementing 3D work into the pipeline.

  • Experience in rapid prototyping to test feasibility of concepts.

  • Ability to pitch game design concepts in a clear, detailed manner, through strong written and verbal skills.

  • Examples of your level design work which demonstrate your design sensibilities and process.

  • A team player-mindset, understanding the importance of collaboration, and able to communicate effectively with all disciplines and departments.

  • Ability to proactively identify and deal with issues before they arise.
