Our industry-leading services and solutions are developed collaboratively with teams across EA to enhance creativity and improve outcomes for our partners and players.

The Creative Innovation team within the Central Technology organization is the driving force behind EA's cutting-edge research, 3rd-party partnerships, and content creation technologies. From AI-powered tools for character animation to groundbreaking world-building systems, this team researches, innovates, and integrates transformative technologies into creative workflows. By joining Creative Innovation, you'll work at the intersection of creativity, technology, and design solutions that redefine immersive gaming experiences. If you're looking for a team that combines the agility of a startup with the impact of a global AAA, then we're looking for you.

We are looking for a hands-on Senior Software Engineer to lead the technical execution of an incubation project focused on extracting rich, structured data from existing EA games. This role is ideal for a senior generalist who excels in ambiguous problem spaces, can quickly become productive in large, unfamiliar codebases, and delivers through considered, execution-driven decision-making.

Operating as both a technical lead and senior individual contributor, you will guide a small engineering team, take ownership of the most complex technical challenges, and collaborate with game teams and partners across EA.

This role is hybrid remote/in-office and you will work from our Vancouver/Burnaby office. You will report into the General Manager of the Tools and Technology team.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance and direction to a small team of engineers

  • Be the senior hands-on engineer, unblocking the team and taking ownership of complex technical tasks.

  • Instrument gameplay, rendering, and simulation systems to output structured and usable gameplay & video data.

  • Adapt engineering approaches across different game codebases, identifying pragmatic solutions tailored to each title.

  • Make short-term architectural and implementation decisions in consideration of rapid incubation needs, while allowing future iteration and reuse.

  • Extract, document, and share reusable instrumentation patterns and reference implementations for future teams.

  • Maintain communication and secure minimal support from game teams while promoting positive relationships.

  • Ensure consistency, quality, and shared learning across the contractor team's work.

  • Deliver a functional multi-title data capture prototype that informs future decisions and next-phase investment

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including experience in AAA game development.

  • Generalist engineering skill set spanning gameplay, simulation, debugging, performance, and foundational rendering or engine systems.

  • Experience working directly inside large game codebases and quickly becoming productive.

  • Experience unblocking teams—whether through mentorship, architectural guidance, or taking on technically challenging features yourself.

  • Comfortable operating in experimental environments with evolving goals.

  • You can collaborate with diverse teams, and maintain productive relationships with game teams.

  • Experience with Frostbite or another AAA game engine
