The Software Quality Engineer role within EA Sports Quality Verification Engineering (QVE) focuses on building and delivering workflows and tools that solve real-world challenges across the game development lifecycle. Working closely with QA and Development teams, you will identify pain points and deliver scalable solutions that improve efficiency, streamline build, test, and validation processes, and elevate product quality. This role plays a key part in driving upstream quality and defect prevention, helping ensure a seamless player experience. Reporting to a Development Director and working with Quality Engineering Technical Director, you will also contribute to evolving testing strategies, exploring new technologies, and delivering systems that support game development and verification at scale.
Primary Responsibilities
Driving workflow and tools delivery:
- Partner with Dev and QA teams to identify workflow gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement across build, test, and validation processes.
- Design, develop, and maintain internal tools and workflows that improve productivity, quality, and speed of delivery.
- Enhance and evolve existing tools, pipelines, and systems to better meet the needs of game teams.
- Deliver scalable, reliable solutions that integrate into the broader development and testing ecosystem.
- Support adoption of tools and workflows through usability improvements, documentation, and direct engagement with teams.
- Leverage automation strategically within workflows to reduce manual effort and improve consistency.
- Identify and recommend improvements to debugging, telemetry, and observability to better support development and testing.
- Provide technical expertise and support to engineers and partners using delivered tools and workflows.
- Participate in knowledge-sharing sessions to promote effective use of tools, workflows, and best practices.
- Perform risk analysis of new features, identifying impact, scope, and validation needs.
- Assist with prioritizing bug fixing efforts and identifying areas of test focus through improved tooling and insights.
Qualifications
- Solid C# knowledge and experience is a key requirement for this role.
- Knowledge of C++, and scripting experience with Python, JavaScript, or similar technologies is an asset.
- Experience or interest in building developer-facing tools, workflows, or pipelines.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of the software development life cycle, software engineering methodologies and practices, and their application to both development and QA.
- Experience designing and building scalable multi-tier solutions with clear decoupling between component layers.
- Experience building generalized solutions that can be easily re-configured for multiple partners/game projects.
- Excellent understanding of software quality assurance concepts, debugging processes, and validation strategies.
- Experience working with diverse internal partners—able to understand their challenges and translate needs into effective solutions.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate trade-offs and recommend practical approaches.
- Comfort experimenting with new approaches, iterating on solutions, and learning from outcomes to improve systems and processes.
- Experience with, or a strong interest in, staying current with emerging Machine Learning and AI technologies, and applying them to improve workflows, tools, and development processes.
