Who You Are:
Ideally, Lighters will have a background that combines art and technical skills. They typically have a degree in Computer Graphics, Computer Science, and Art-related subjects such as Photography or Computer Animation, Math, or Physics. They will also have solid experience in at least one of the 3D packages currently in use by the industry. These include Maya, Houdini, XSI and 3D Studio Max. Familiarity with other relevant programs are also a plus.
Your Responsibilities:
As a lighter, you will leverage your craft to create atmosphere to add realism, tone, and depth to a scene. You will need to use your technical skill as well as your aesthetic judgment to push the boundaries of real time rendering and deliver stunning visuals. You will work with an Art Director to emphasize drama or narrative, and also establish and clarify location, weather, time of day, mood and atmosphere. You will be expected to respect and follow an established design theme for a sequence or project and to establish that visual style as faithfully as possible, taking care to maintain continuity throughout the scene and game.
Your Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience lighting for video games
- Experience with a 3D CG package (e.g., Maya, Mental Ray)
- Creates lighting that reflects the vision of the art direction with minimal supervision
- Possess solid artistic skills, including a thorough understanding of color theory, composition, light, and form
- An independent problem solver proven to be accountable and results oriented
- Collaborates with leads to prioritize and plan a backlog of tasks
- Proactively raises issues and keeps the communication channels open to ensure all stakeholders are informed/consulted
- Edits attributes of material, light, textures and render features to address critical feedback of visuals
- Demonstrated understanding of rendering, lighting, shading networks, polygonal modeling, and texture UV's
- You will also understand the physical characteristics of light and how it is simulated in a CG environment (physically based rendering)
- Able to work from reference materials, identifying and translating key lighting details into applicable information
- Should be able to moderate to complex interior and exterior scenes
- Experience with film, photography or theater lighting is a plus
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS The ranges listed below are what EA in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in these locations at the time of this posting. If you reside in a different location, a recruiter will advise on the applicable range and benefits. Pay offered will be determined based on a number of relevant business and candidate factors (e.g. education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, or business needs). - British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria)
- $73,200 - $101,700 CAD
In British Columbia, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, and after 3 months of service - extended health/dental/vision coverage and basic life insurance.
