Description & Requirements

Electronic Arts creates next-level entertainment experiences that inspire players and fans around the world. Here, everyone is part of the story. Part of a community that connects across the globe. A place where creativity thrives, new perspectives are invited, and ideas matter. A team where everyone makes play happen.

Battlefield is a storied franchise renowned for uncompromising combat gameplay for over two decades. 100 million players and 5 billion hours played later, the Battlefield team is looking to define the future of the first-person shooter. Comprised of 4 world-class studios across Criterion, DICE, Motive and Ripple Effect – all powered by the Battlefield Central Technology (BCT) team – what’s forming on the horizon is a connected Battlefield universe filled with immersive experiences built on our unique DNA.

The role of the Chapter Cinematic Creative Director is to lead the execution plan and overall creative vision and for visual storytelling across all experiences (Single Player, Multiplayer, Free-to-Play). We ask that you have a hands-on, execution-focused leader who not only conceptualizes compelling experiences but can bring them to life by working directly on the creative process.

You have expertise of the creative pipeline, from concept to final delivery, including animation, lighting, rendering, cinematography, editing and audio production.

You will prioritize efficiency and quality in every aspect of creative development, promoting a 'show, don’t tell' approach. By emphasizing rapid previsualization and prototyping over extended deliberation.

You have experience with creative leadership, hands-on execution, and have at least 12 years experience with both real-time and offline productions. You will report to the Sr Director, Cinematics.

Responsibilities:

  • Hands-on Creative Execution & Pipeline Development:
    • Help create content, taking a hands-on approach to designing, directing, producing, and editing important creative assets, including visual storytelling elements, animations, and in-game cinematic moments.
    • Work directly on editing cinematic sequences, trailers, and in-game cutscenes, ensuring top-tier pacing, visual flow, and agreement on the narrative tone.
    • Collaborate with Project Cinematic Technical Designer to establish a well functioning, user-friendly creative pipeline that empowers artists, designers, and engineers to deliver high-quality, player-centric content.
    • Define, prototype, and refine tools and workflows that improve the creative production process and improve accessibility for both our teams and external partners.
    • An understanding of the Battlefield franchise and a clear grasp of what players want to experience in our game.
  • Strategic Planning & Team Development:
    • Strategize and shape the future of the BF franchise's creative direction by creating innovation, and elevating overall quality.
    • Be involved in the recruitment process to develop an experienced, versatile creative team prepared for the future.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration:
    • Be a hands-on creative contributor and mentor, encouraging collaboration across departments and inspiring the team to achieve our goals.
    • Collaborate with internal and external teams, including Frostbite, EA Create, Marketing, and external vendors, to align creative efforts with the vision of the franchise.
    • Partner with engineering teams to enhance creative tools and improve workflows for in-engine and offline production.
  • Creative Leadership in Player-Focused Experiences:
    • Manage the creative direction and implementation of important areas, including:
      • In-Game Visual Experiences: Cut scenes and immersive storytelling.
      • Transmedia Storytelling: Cinematic trailers and promotional content.

Requirements:

  • Experience implementing efficient workflows that prioritize solutions over theory, translating concepts into tangible outputs through rapid prototyping and previs.
  • Pipeline Expertise: Understanding of the creative pipeline, with hands-on experience in animation, lighting, rendering, post-production, and tools development.
  • Creative Vision and Execution: Someone who excels in taking ideas from concept to execution and delivering high-quality results.
  • Technical Expertise: Experience with both real-time graphics and offline CG productions, with an understanding of tools like Unreal Engine, Frostbite, or equivalent.
  • Ability to help mentor creative teams, inspiring excellence and innovation.
