This is a hybrid remote/in-office role based in our Birmingham, UK studio. A remote role may be considered for those within the EU.
Our award-winning Codemasters studio is looking for a Lead VFX Engineer to join the F1 team. Working in a passionate close-knit team with other engineers, designers and content creators, we’ll make sure your voice doesn’t get lost in the crowd. You’ll be part of a team delivering ‘AAA’ racing games within a studio that will value and recognize your contributions. You will help to re-invent and shape Codemasters’ boldest F1 racing title ever, from its creation to a genre-defining experience.
Our VFX Engineers help bring the game’s visually rich real-world environments and characters to life. They are responsible for all technical aspects of the visual effects within the game, including particle systems and atmospheric effects. The focus is on delivering the vision of the VFX art and design teams to build remarkable racing games in a realistic and believable virtual world.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to a Technical Director or Lead Rendering Engineering you will
Lead the development of architecture, technical design and implementation for a group working on graphically rich visual effects systems, ensuring all workflows, pipelines and processes are in place.
Provide oversight for implementing high-quality code in a large codebase, within a cross discipline agile team, maintaining and extending existing systems for visually complex effects, collaborating with other feature teams.
Work with the engineering, VFX art and production teams across multiple versions of the game to evaluate the technical feasibility of dynamic visual effects and rendering systems, contribute to and evaluate technical documentation and help define and manage scope.
Lead efforts in testing and refinement of VFX systems and features and lead the use of automated testing across the team for multiple versions of the game.
Evaluate estimates for feature development and report these to the team.
Qualifications and Skills:
C++ knowledge (8+ years).
Software architecture and development methodologies.
Advanced 3D rendering techniques on modern consoles and PCs.
Advanced visual effects rendering techniques.
Knowledge of tools and asset production pipelines.
Knowledge of debugging and profiling tools and techniques..
A degree in a relevant subject (e.g. Maths/Physics/CS/Game Tech), or comparable relevant experience.
Multiple shipped, full-lifecycle game titles in a senior or lead rendering related role.
Knowledge of DCC tools for VFX production, including 3DS Max, Houdini.
Knowledge of 3rd Party VFX middleware (e.g. PopcornFX).
