The Senior Security Software Engineer II reports to the Director, Security Software Engineering in the SPEAR Automation team.

This role is aimed at engineers who operate beyond the scope of a single team or service. You will be responsible for identifying, shaping, and delivering solutions to complex, often ambiguous problems that span multiple systems and teams. You will help define and evolve the internal platforms that enable EA teams to build, ship, and operate software securely at scale. This includes working across software engineering, platform engineering, and SRE concerns, with a strong focus on developer experience, system reliability, and operational excellence.

Our environment is intentionally polyglot, and you’ll be expected to work pragmatically across multiple languages, frameworks, and infrastructure rather than specialising in a single stack. Success in this role is measured not just by the code you write, but by the impact you have on how systems are designed, how teams operate, and how effectively engineers across the organisation can deliver high-quality software.

You will play a key role in shaping the platforms and systems that power how EA builds and operates software. Your work will influence not just a single team, but how multiple teams across the company deliver reliable, secure, and scalable services to millions of players.

What You’ll Do

  • Own and drive large, cross-cutting technical initiatives that span multiple teams, systems, and domains

  • Define and break down ambiguous problem spaces, and lead them through to practical, high-impact solutions

  • Design and evolve internal platforms and shared services that improve scalability, reliability, and developer experience

  • Establish and promote engineering patterns and best practices in areas such as system design, observability, and service reliability

  • Lead architectural decisions, making pragmatic trade-offs across performance, reliability, cost, and speed of delivery

  • Contribute directly to critical parts of the system where deep technical expertise is required

  • Improve how systems are operated in production, including monitoring, incident response, and long-term reliability improvements

  • Influence technical direction across teams through design reviews, collaboration, and hands-on leadership

  • Mentor engineers at multiple levels, particularly Senior engineers, helping to raise the overall technical bar

  • Partner with teams across EA to understand workflows and remove friction through better platform design and tooling

What We’re Looking For

  • Extensive experience building and operating distributed systems at scale, with a strong understanding of production challenges and failure modes

  • A track record of delivering complex technical initiatives across multiple teams or domains, not just within a single codebase

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, with deep proficiency in at least one modern programming language and the ability to work across others

  • 7+ Years Experience working across a broad, polyglot technology stack, for example:

    • Backend and services: Node.js, .NET, Rust, PHP

    • Frontend and web platforms: React, Angular, Next.js, TypeScript

    • Infrastructure and platform: Kubernetes, AWS (including EKS, ECS/Fargate), CI/CD systems (e.g. GitLab CI), GitOps tooling (e.g. ArgoCD)

  • Proven ability to design or evolve platform-level systems, internal developer platforms, or shared infrastructure

  • Solid understanding of SRE principles, including observability, SLIs/SLOs, incident management, and system health

  • Experience improving system reliability and developer productivity through automation, platform design, and intelligent tooling

  • Experience designing systems and workflows that are highly automatable and extensible, with well-defined interfaces for both human and programmatic use

  • Experience with modern delivery practices, including Infrastructure-as-Code and automated pipelines

  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, define problems, and drive solutions without needing detailed direction

  • Strong communication and influencing skills, with experience aligning engineers and stakeholders across teams

Nice to Have

  • Experience building or scaling internal developer platforms or self-service tooling

  • Familiarity with large-scale CI/CD or build systems

  • Experience improving developer experience and productivity across organisations

  • Background in high-availability or live service environments

  • Exposure to security or compliance domains
