We are Frostbite

Frostbite is EA’s proprietary game engine that comes equipped with tons of tools and technologies designed to build incredible games. Our in-house engine offers the unique ability to adapt to each game while working hand-in-hand to prioritize what to build.  Our goal is to empower creators all over the world to bring their best ideas to life by creating an engine that amplifies innovation across every discipline.

What does a Technical Art Director for Frostbite Partner Experience do?

As a Technical Art Director for the Frostbite Partner experience team, you will report to Frostbite's Group Technical Art Director and focus on the workflow experience of our game team partners. You will work with game team partners to proactively identify challenges they are having in their usage of the engine, especially content workflows, and advise them on possible improvements. When engine changes are needed for the improvements, you will partner with the Frostbite engineering team to make the improvements happen. The ultimate goal will be to get so close to the game teams that we understand their needs before they do. A hybrid or optionally full time on-site work model is expected to allow collaboration with game team partners. Regular communication across time zones will be needed and some travel is also likely.

Responsibilities

  • Work proactively with Technical Art Directors on game teams to understand their content workflows and the challenges they face to identify how to help them improve
  • Partner with the Frostbite development team to make engine improvements that are needed by game teams in production
  • Lead collaborative improvement efforts that bring Frostbite team members across the world closer to the game use cases
  • Advise the quality verification team in the building of better workflow tests
  • Mentor technical artists, engineers, and quality assurance team members on content topics
  • Be a leader in the Frostbite Partner Experience organization driving overall improvements for how Frostbite works with game teams
  • Join and contribute to the larger EA technical art community

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of game development experience, ideally in AAA games or engine development
  • Extensive experience developing and improving content workflows and pipelines
  • Expert knowledge of several DCC apps such as Maya, Houdini, Substance, Blender, or Photoshop
  • Experience optimizing game content within technical constraints
  • Experience with visual or python scripting
  • Experience with game engines (i.e. Frostbite, Unreal, or Unity)
  • Effective at communicating with different audiences: artists, engineers, and managers
  • A willingness to jump into the unknown and solve new technical and creative problems
  • Comfortable engaging and building relationships with multiple teams and individuals globally
