A Technical Animator is a bridge between animation and tech, working with animators, programmers, designers and the technical animation team. Their main responsibilities can include character rigging, deformation, tools, workflows, data setup, engine integrations and runtime behaviors. As a Technical Animation Intern, you may come from backgrounds in Art, Animation, Engineering, or Computer Science, but you should have a passion for, and comfort with, tackling artistic and technical challenges. At Motive, you will join a game team to support the technical needs of animation in a dynamic production environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Technical Animation team to support the needs of gameplay animation behaviors and custom gameplay moments.
  • Work with the Technical Animation team to support cinematic scene setup, data management, integrations, and troubleshooting.

Qualifications:

  • Some experience working with a game engine (like Unity or Unreal).
  • Knowledge of animation packages, such as Maya or MotionBuilder.
  • Some scripting/programming experience is a plus (in a language like Python).
  • An understanding of the processes and challenges in the creation of animation content for games.

We are only considering students who will be enrolled in an accredited degree program in the summer of 2025, slated to graduate no earlier than December 2025. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada on a full-time basis during the 4-month internship. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
