Technical Interface Designer at EA SPORTS FC

After nearly 30 years of creating genre-defining, interactive football experiences with the world's largest football entertainment platform, EA SPORTS FIFA, we rebranded to EA SPORTS FC. WHAT WILL YOU DO?

The Technical Interface Designer (TID) bridges the gap between artists and software engineers by combining artistic skills with programming expertise. As part of the Experience Design Team (XD), you'll collaborate closely with designers, producers, and engineers. You'll have the unique opportunity to establish best practices and drive innovation. You'll work with both legacy and new UI technologies to create exceptional experiences for FC players. Join us to shape the future of gaming interfaces, balancing legacy systems with pioneering advancements in UI design with EA’s frostbite engine. 

YOUR ROLE:

  • Integration of screens and components from mockups provided by the design team.

  • While your role will initially focus on supporting animations and UI using legacy technologies, such as Flash-based ActionScript and XML, the ultimate goal is to help us transition and integrate these experiences into EA’s new internal technology built on the Frostbite engine.

  • Maintain best practices in code and design implementation.

  • You'll seamlessly implement motion demos into the game, focusing on UI animations and effects using our proprietary game engine to enhance the front end and HUD for an immersive player experience.

  • Apply proper UI optimization techniques in design assets.

  • Quickly identify and debug art and animation related issues

  • Collaborate closely with experience design, production, and engineering to bridge design vision and implementation, ensuring alignment from concept to execution.

  • Document tools and workflows on the internal Wiki.

  • High fidelity rapid prototyping for UX evaluation.

WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR:

  • 3+ years of technical skills, and ability to quickly learn new proprietary production tools and workflow.

  • Adept or be able to quickly learn various programming techniques and design patterns such as Model-View-ViewModel (MVVM). 

  • Familiar with markup languages such as XML.

  • Proficient with Adobe Photoshop, Figma,  After Effects, and other graphics and animation applications.

  • 1+ years of experience creating 3D motion graphics or interfaces using game engines like Unreal, Unity, or proprietary engines.

  • Experience utilizing the Entity Component System (ECS) pattern in engines such as Unity.

  • Good understanding of user experience, design patterns and user interactions with digital products. Ability to advocate delightful experiences.

  • Skilled in visual animation and programming, with the ability to create dynamic and engaging visual content through scripting and animation techniques.

NICE TO HAVE

  • Understanding of user experience principles.

  • Understanding of revision version control software. Knowledge of Perforce is ideal.

  • Understanding or knowledge of C++.

  • Degree in a relevant visual art or technical subject highly desired (e.g. BSc Computer Science or Game Programming , Game Art and Design Diploma).

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The ranges listed below are what EA in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in these locations at the time of this posting. If you reside in a different location, a recruiter will advise on the applicable range and benefits. Pay offered will be determined based on a number of relevant business and candidate factors (e.g. education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, or business needs). 

PAY RANGES

* British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria) * $96,400 - $133,900 CAD

 In British Columbia, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, and extended health/dental/vision coverage and basic life insurance.
