As part of Battlefield Studios, Criterion works alongside teams across the franchise to create immersive player experiences and help define the future of FPS games.

We're looking for an Associate Level Designer who is passionate about first-person shooters and excited to develop their craft while contributing to Battlefield. Working closely with experienced designers and cross-disciplinary teams, you'll help create engaging gameplay spaces and memorable player moments from concept through release. You’ll report to a Lead Level Designer or Senior Level Designer.

What You'll Do

● Support the creation and implementation of level designs, from early blockouts through polish and iteration.
● Build and iterate on gameplay spaces using level editing tools and established design workflows.
● Collaborate with art, gameplay, narrative, and technical teams to help ensure levels deliver engaging player experiences.
● Contribute ideas and feedback during design reviews, playtests, and team discussions.
● Help identify and address gameplay issues through testing, iteration, and collaboration with teammates.
● Use player feedback, playtest results, and team guidance to improve level quality and player experience.
● Learn and apply Battlefield level design principles, best practices, and development processes.
● Assist in documenting designs, communicating updates, and maintaining level content throughout development.

What We're Looking For

● 1–2 years of game development or level design experience, or equivalent relevant education, modding, or project work.
● Passion for first-person shooters and an interest in level design for large-scale multiplayer experiences.
● Familiarity with level design fundamentals, including player flow, encounter design, pacing, and spatial composition.
● Experience using game editors, blockout tools, or related content creation software through coursework, personal projects, or professional experience.
● An understanding of gameplay iteration and the importance of playtesting and player feedback.
● Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a willingness to learn and receive feedback.
● A proactive attitude, attention to detail, and enthusiasm for solving design challenges as part of a team.
● A portfolio demonstrating level design work, prototypes, mods, or other relevant game development projects.

Nice to Have

● Experience creating content in Unreal Engine, Frostbite, or another modern game engine.
● Knowledge of multiplayer or shooter level design principles.
● Experience with scripting, visual scripting, or technical design tools.
● Participation in game jams, modding communities, or shipped student/indie projects.
● Familiarity with Battlefield games and an understanding of what makes Battlefield gameplay unique.
