Description & Requirements

Electronic Arts creates next-level entertainment experiences that inspire players and fans around the world. Here, everyone is part of the story. Part of a community that connects across the globe. A place where creativity thrives, new perspectives are invited, and ideas matter. A team where everyone makes play happen.

EA SPORTS is one of the leading sports entertainment brands in the world, with top-selling videogame franchises, award-winning interactive technology, fan programs, and cross-platform digital experiences. EA SPORTS creates connected experiences that ignite the emotion of sport through industry-leading sports video games, including Madden NFL football, EA Sports FC soccer, NHL® hockey, and EA SPORTS UFC.

As an Automation Software Engineer, you’ll be at the intersection of gameplay, systems, and technology — building scalable solutions that accelerate our ability to test, validate, and optimize game mechanics, balance, modes, animation, and live content. You’ll help architect and evolve smart, automated systems that empower designers and developers to iterate faster and with more confidence.

Our Optima engineers maintain a high-level view of the entire development pipeline — from tools to CI/CD to gameplay telemetry — and act as force multipliers, unlocking efficiency and quality across the studio. If you're passionate about solving complex technical problems, shaping how games are tested at scale, and leveraging automation to make great games even better, we want to hear from you.

*Please note, this position will require a hybrid onsite presence in either Victoria BC Canada, or Orlando, FL*

Your Responsibilities

  • Build and scale automation frameworks to validate gameplay mechanics, animation systems, balance models, and game modes across multiple platforms and configurations.

  • Partner closely with design, QA, and engineering to identify key pain points and deliver automated workflows that reduce manual validation and increase iteration velocity.

  • Own the creation and maintenance of intelligent test systems integrated with our CI/CD pipelines, catching regressions early and ensuring stable builds across the development lifecycle.

  • Leverage telemetry and gameplay data to inform test scenarios that simulate real-world player behavior at scale.

  • Contribute to the overall automation strategy — influencing best practices, tool selection, and system design for long-term sustainability and cross-project reuse.

  • Drive improvements to tooling, workflows, and infrastructure that enable rapid prototyping, safe experimentation, and fast feedback loops.

  • Develop and implement automation tests and technology that ensure the long term support of a live-service title, with a focus on rapid content delivery.

Your Qualifications

  • 6+ years of professional software development experience using OOP languages (e.g., C++, C#).

  • Proven experience in test automation frameworks, continuous integration systems, and real-time debugging in game or simulation environments.

  • Understanding of SDLC, STLC processes, and quality engineering best practices.

  • Deep understanding of software engineering fundamentals: algorithms, design patterns, data structures, CI/CD pipelines, and test-driven development.

  • Experience collaborating across multi-disciplinary teams to deliver complex systems in a live game or high-stakes production environment.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer, Software Engineering, Computer Science Degree or related concentration, equivalent and/or combination of education and work experience.

Bonus Points:

  • Experience using machine learning to drive automation or simulate player behavior for balance and system tuning.

  • Familiarity with agentic agents or reinforcement learning frameworks for emergent gameplay testing and sandbox simulation.

  • Background in computer vision, especially in the context of gameplay validation, animation quality checks, or visual regression testing.

  • Hands-on experience integrating game telemetry and behavioral analytics into test pipelines.

  • Prior contributions to scalable test infrastructures for multiplayer, sandbox, or systems-heavy games.
