Reports to: Head of APAC Legal, Los Angeles, USA

Work Environment: Hybrid 

Role Summary:

As a legal counsel, you will provide strategic legal guidance for Korea-based operations of Electronic Arts, managing all legal and compliance matters across the region. You will advise senior leadership in Korea and other parts of Asia, supporting business growth through sound legal strategies and ensuring compliance with regional laws. You will work as an individual contributor, and collaborate with teams and manage external counsel. 


Main Responsibilities:

1. Legal Advisory and Strategy

  • You will provide legal guidance on a variety of issues, including regulatory compliance, media, intellectual property, digital and data privacy, employment law, and contractual agreements.

  • You will partner with regional leadership to align business strategies with regulatory requirements and risk management.

  • You will advise on potential risks and offer proactive solutions that promote our goals while mitigating legal exposure.

2. Employment

  • You will provide oversight on employment matters in Korea and other parts of Asia.

  • You will work with global employment team to handle employment and labor issues and disputes within the region.

3. Compliance and Regulatory Management

  • You will ensure compliance with all regional laws, such as data privacy (GDPR, local privacy laws), antitrust, and labor laws.

  • You will partner with Head of Compliance to lead regional compliance projects, including training programs and internal audits, to promote an ethical culture and mitigate regulatory risks.

4. Contract Management and Negotiation

  • You will draft, review, and negotiate high-stakes commercial agreements, including licensing, publishing and distribution, content acquisition, development, and marketing contracts.

  • You will manage legal aspects of partnerships, sponsorships, and brand collaborations, ensuring agreement on company policies and local regulations.

5. Dispute Resolution and Litigation Management

  • You will manage disputes, litigations, and other legal actions, coordinating with external counsel.

  • You will develop strategies to resolve potential legal conflicts while maintaining our interests.

6. Risk Management

  • You will identify legal risks associated with business strategies and implement controls to reduce them.

  • You will conduct legal risk assessments for business activities, ensuring understanding of internal policies and risk tolerance levels.


Qualifications:

  • Education: Juris Doctor (JD) degree or equivalent from an accredited law school; admission to practice law in common law jurisdiction (e.g., US, UK, AU) or Korea.

  • Experience: 10+ years of legal experience in a law firm or in-house within the entertainment, media, or digital sectors.

  • Expertise:

    • In-depth knowledge of regional video game industry standards, regulations, and business practices.

    • Background in entertainment, employment, contract negotiation, IP, and regulatory compliance.

    • Experience managing high-value commercial transactions, in licensing and distribution.
