Description & Requirements

Electronic Arts creates next-level entertainment experiences that inspire players and fans around the world. Here, everyone is part of the story. Part of a community that connects across the globe. A place where creativity thrives, new perspectives are invited, and ideas matter. A team where everyone makes play happen.

Since 1995, BioWare has been dedicated to creating games defined by rich storytelling, unforgettable characters, and expansive worlds. Over the years, the studio has earned recognition for developing some of the industry’s most critically acclaimed titles. Today, BioWare is building on that legacy with the development of the next Mass Effect game, continuing one of the highest-rated and most celebrated series in video game history.

Principal Level Designer

We are looking for a world-class Principal Level Designer. You will use your creative, technical, and single-player expertise to provide direct examples of the highest-quality design for the team to follow, both technically and creatively, and to inspire aspirational goals.

Reporting to the Game Director, you will work with an experienced level design team, guiding the group as they prototype, implement, polish and debug their spaces. We are considering on-site and hybrid working options for candidates.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop gold standard missions and levels that exemplify Mass Effect's creative vision and core pillars.

  • Collaborate with the team on the narrative, gameplay and novel experiences that define Mass Effect.

  • You will work with your creative partners to outline the gameplay experience (landmarks, encounters, flow rhythm, tension, pacing, variety, and exploration).

  • Experiment with design features to identify opportunities and define best practices.

  • Meet with the team to mentor, motivate, and strengthen best practices and examples in level design.

  • Work with production to identify asset dependencies, scope, and delivery of schedules.

  • Review content and provide feedback.

  • You will use external player feedback to iterate and find solutions to friction points.

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of level design work, with level design experience on at least two AAA titles.

  • Experiential and narrative flow through a level, creating evocative spaces and iconic moments.

  • Experience with block mesh and scripting languages. Unreal expertise is critical.

  • Mentor and inspire level designers at all levels of experience.

  • Experience working with Creative and Technical leads to identify pipeline and design improvements.
