Infrastructure & Platform Services (IPS) builds and runs the technology foundation for EA's games. Our teams deliver the live services and backend infrastructure that are used to ship, scale, and operate secure, reliable game experiences for millions of players worldwide.


Within this broader organization, the Marketplace Team is growing our new cross-game, cross-platform digital economy platform. This large-scale, always-on collection of Java/Kotlin and GO based services will power EA's network of games. These virtual economies are experienced by tens of millions of monthly active users.

As a Sr. Software Engineer I, you will champion best practices within the engineering team and serve as a mentor to the team.

You will report to the Sr. Engineering Director. 


Responsibilities:

  • You will lead the technical design and architecture of major components in our large-scale distributed backend service, creating new features and updating existing ones

  • You will build server-side systems that deliver new functionality within the larger Digital Platform.

  • You will work with product managers to reduce technical debt associated with legacy systems through innovation and automation.

  • You will work with customers and business leaders to understand customer needs and deliver incrementally on their highest priority features and requirements.

  • You will spend 40-60% of your time hands-on coding.


Qualifications: 

  • 9+ years of experience in software engineering

  • Expertise in Java, Golang, and Kafka

  • 6+ years of experience working on online services (HTTP via REST) at Internet consumer scale

  • 6+ years of experience working with technologies like AWS, Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform

  • Expertise with the Software design / architecture process

  • Experience with DevOps, Continuous Delivery, and Agile development

  • Experience working on high traffic services and highly scalable systems (>2 million DAU, hundreds of thousands requests per second)

  • Technical leadership or mentorship experience

  • Experience with technologies such as memcache, queuing, and NoSQL in production systems and other OSS tech


Bonus:

  • Experience with Maven/Gradle

  • Experience with load testing and system analysis

  • Experience with other languages such as C++ or C#

  • Some experience leading or guiding engineers

  • Experience working with remote teams

  • Domain experience in economics, commerce, and/or fraud area


This is a hybrid remote/in-office role.


Pay Transparency - North America

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS 

The ranges listed below are what EA in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in these locations at the time of this posting. If you reside in a different location, a recruiter will advise on the applicable range and benefits. Pay offered will be determined based on a number of relevant business and candidate factors (e.g. education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, or business needs). 

PAY RANGES
* British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria) *$141,400 - $204,400 CAD

Pay is just one part of the overall compensation at EA.
For Canada, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top-up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
