BioWare, founded in 1995 and based primarily in Edmonton, Canada, creates games with rich stories, memorable characters, and immersive worlds. The studio has earned critical acclaim for shaping the RPG genre with franchises like Mass Effect™, a groundbreaking sci-fi saga that has captivated players with its cinematic storytelling, unforgettable player choices, genre-defining characters, and expansive universe. Dragon Age™, with its latest entry, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, continues the legacy of rich world-building and character-driven narratives. The Senior Technical Artist will report to the Technical Art Director. This role won’t have managerial responsibilities. This position is hybrid with a preferred location of Edmonton, Vancouver or Montreal

Responsibilities:

You will:

  • Define content creation standards (data structure, naming conventions, specs)
  • Evaluate runtime performance, provide guidance to the content creation team on performance issues.
  • Work with programmers, artists, and designers to establish metrics and workflows around performance management and asset validation to ensure that the game operates within established targets
  • Develop and maintain base shaders
  • Create and maintain tools to assist artists with their daily workflows
  • Review content at each stage of development and provide feedback to artists
  • Provide the first line of support for troubleshooting artist issues, and ensure that those which need escalation are resolved
  • Help maintain shared scripting libraries and participate in code reviews

Qualifications:

8+ years of experience in the industry

Have shipped 2 titles using Unreal Engine 4/5

Experienced content management skills (naming convention, data structure, validation)

Experience with Python or tools development

Experience with 3D modeling, world-building, and node-based scripting systems (materials, blueprints)

Experience in procedural content creation

Preferably some experience with C++

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS The ranges listed below are what EA in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in these locations at the time of this posting. If you reside in a different location, a recruiter will advise on the applicable range and benefits. Pay offered will be determined based on a number of relevant business and candidate factors (e.g. education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, or business needs). BASE SALARY RANGES

  • British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria)
    • $133,400 - $193,200 CAD

In British Columbia, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top-up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
