The Principal Narrative Systems Designer will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to craft immersive narratives that respond to player choices, ensuring a seamless blend of story and gameplay. Reporting to the Design Manager, this role demands a blend of creativity, technical prowess, and a profound understanding of narrative structures to drive our vision of interactive storytelling.

Responsibilities:

  • Define the requirements for the Narrative Systems and provide the documentation to support the development of them.

  • Lead the narrative team in developing narrative tools and systems that align with our innovative vision for interactive storytelling.

  • Establish a collaborative environment for the narrative team, fostering creativity, efficiency, and excellence in game storytelling.

  • Integrate narrative elements with game mechanics to create a deeply immersive experience where storytelling and gameplay enhance each other.

  • Drive innovation in narrative techniques and collaborate with other EA Studios to share knowledge, insights, and best practices.

  • Shape the next generation of narrative designers by imparting experience, techniques, and best practices to a team dedicated to redefining storytelling in games.

  • Foster cross-disciplinary collaboration to ensure narrative elements are well-integrated into the broader game experience.

  • Develop and refine narrative tools, pipelines, and systems in collaboration with engineering teams to streamline the implementation of narrative content.

Qualifications:

  • 5+  years' experience in a leadership or principal level role in narrative design.

  • Mastery in crafting interactive and procedural narratives that are dynamic and adaptable to player choices.

  • Proficiency in narrative design tools and software, with a solid understanding of their integration within game environments.

  • Proven track record of successful interdisciplinary collaboration and narrative tool development.

  • Demonstrated innovation in narrative design and a commitment to pushing creative boundaries.

  • Strong leadership skills with a history of nurturing talent and fostering collaborative team environments.
