We're looking for a highly-skilled Senior Technical Materials Artist to join our Star Wars team.


Responsibilities:

  • Manage and enhance primary materials crucial for art teams.
  • Support art teams with material features and functionality.
  • Collaborate with engineers to optimize material and rendering features for art needs.
  • Identify and resolve performance and memory usage issues with engineers, artists, and designers.
  • Advocate for departmental goals, addressing roadblocks and raising concerns.
  • Foster strong cross-departmental collaboration.
  • Elevate quality standards, streamline processes, and develop innovative solutions.
  • Suggest and implement new technologies and tools in workflows.
  • Provide clear guidance on technical constraints, maintain material assets, and define budgets.
  • Undertake basic production tasks such as task breakdowns, estimates, and timekeeping.
  • Contribute to team culture, participate in interviews, onboard new hires, and support team health in discussions.
  • Promote inclusivity in the work environment.
  • Engage with developers across disciplines to enhance project-level outcomes, ensuring a great game and development experience.
  • Establish standards for tech art team, including code, materials, and blueprints.
  • Offer feedback through code and content reviews.


Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience with Unreal's material system.
  • 5+ years as a tech artist in the games industry, with high-level experience on AAA game teams; at least one AAA shipped title preferred.
  • Proficiency in Unreal blueprints.
  • Portfolio showcasing relevant tech art experience (materials, tools, pipelines, etc.).
  • Expertise in 3D and 2D software (Substance, Photoshop, Blender, Maya).
  • Experience with HLSL, Python, and/or C++ is advantageous.
  • Strong organizational skills to drive material standards across the tech art department.
  • Understanding of asset optimization techniques and best practices in content creation.
  • Ability to tackle challenging issues and develop practical solutions.
  • Solid grasp of game engines, art integration, and technical constraints.
  • Experience in game performance and optimization.
  • Capability to both give and receive constructive criticism.
  • Ability to foster positivity and trust within the team and across departments, with empathy and respect for others.
  • Passionate about creating and playing games.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The ranges listed below are what EA in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in these locations at the time of this posting. If you reside in a different location, a recruiter will advise on the applicable range and benefits. Pay offered will be determined based on a number of relevant business and candidate factors (e.g. education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, or business needs). 

PAY RANGES

* British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria) *$119,600 - $167,300 CAD
* California (depending on location e.g. Los Angeles vs. San Francisco) *$138,400 - $211,700 USD

In the US, we offer a package of benefits including paid time off (3 weeks per year to start), 80 hours per year of sick time, 16 paid company holidays per year, 10 weeks paid time off to bond with baby, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.

In British Columbia, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top-up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
